If this was a book from Preston and Child there would for sure go something horribly wrong with this experiment. Still, it's 'comforting' to know that they took the danger of destroying the earth into their risk calculations.

So, they are "truly journeying into unknown territory", yet they know the probability of a catastrophic adverse event to 40 decimal places...
And I'm guessing their marketing people got them to prop it up on its side so it looks like the portal out of Stargate. |

Science: Accidentally destroying the world in pursuit of knowledge since 2006.
Is it weird that I laughed at the part where they calculated the chance of accidentally destroying the planet? Because... I did. Hee.

building a portal to the unknown: 1000000000000000000000000000000000$
hiring the crew and team to work on it: 1000000000000000000000000000000000$ money given to world hunger: 0 knowing that we only have a -10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 chance of all being destroyed...priceless.

I cannot express in any words I know how funny and hopelessly... hopeless that whole thing is. *shakes head in wonder* Yes, very interesting and all that... mini big bangs, etc. But really, they're trying to explain how the supposedly original Big Bang happened when they can't even prove that that is how the universe was--AND I QUOTE!!!!--"created". Scientists really throw me into a state of unbelief. How can you sit there and make this amazingly powerful machine to create miniscule versions of what you term 'the big bang', and then say that this 'Big Bang' just... happened. *is clueless*
Anyway, I hope they find an answer to all their questions. I agree with the 'destroy the world' ratio. Holy Crap. That's like something directly out of Spiderman. Swedish Doc Oc. (Or were they Swedish?) Not to mention... *shakes head* I will never understand folks like this. They really know nothing, but they can quote figures and charts like they have the answers to life, the universe, and everything. You know, that whole thing sounds like something Garth Adams would have come up with for Hitchhikers. It's that corny.

I think she meant a Swedish version of Doc Oc. But aren't the scientists in the article Swiss?
