Quenya Translation
I am doing a project for my Bible class and I am translating Psalm 23 into Quenya. I am stuck on "comfort". Does anyone know the Quenya word for this? Thanks!

you should find another word for "comfort" and see if there is any translations of that... ...as there is no quenya word direct translated from comfort...

The King James is a translation from the Vulgate which reads:
Virga tua et baculus tuus ipsa me consolata sunt So the direct translation could been "Thy rod and thy staff console me." Roget's gives these all for 834. Relief: relieve, ease, alleviate, mitigate, palliate, soothe; salve; soften, soften down; foment, poultice; assuage, allay. cheer, comfort, console; enliven; encourage, bear up, pat on the back, give comfort, set at ease; gladden the heart, cheer the heart; inspirit, invigorate and the Quenya-English dictionary gives just this possibility: ortan- v.root to lift up, uplift What do you think? |

There are a few online. Just type the phrase Quenya-English Dictionary into a search engine.

So how did you get away with translating Psalm 23 into QUENYA for a Bible class anyway? I wish I could get away with that sort of thing. Last time I turned in work in Quenya for school I REALLY pissed off the teacher. I gave him a few pages translating it but my teacher just got really mad.

one of my teachers is so cool, (well actually last year's teacher, the seventh-grade art teacher) he's letting people do the Namarie poem for extra credit at the end of the year! if they're failing, and they do the poem plus a project he assigns, they will automatically get at least a C instead of an F! lucky sixies...
(of course, this was at my suggestion, because i am eternally reciting that one to anyone and everyone who will listen )

Wish I was in your class. My pronunciation may not be perfect, but I've memorized the Altariello nainië Lóriendessë.
