And yeah the Sex Pistols rock. Would you include Green Day as a punk band? I would but lots of true punks dont count them.

I was a "punk" (ha ha!) from 76 to 79. At that time "New Wave" was also lumped with Punk, and I favored those types of bands a little more. I am not familiar with Green Day! I've heard the name, but not the music. I was pretty old when I was "punk" (25), I enjoyed the very early stuff and then sort of moved on to rockabilly.

ah those were the cutting edge years for punk. kinda like being 18 when Woodstock hit. must have been pretty cool. what color was your hair then? must be cool to say yeah I was punk when disco was king. *laugh* Well "New Wave" seperated from punk as a seperate entity right around 79-80 I guess. Then you had bands like the clash and later depeche mode and the smiths and stuff from there and eventually the goth movement evolved from there later on in the 80s. Im surprised you know nothing about Green Day. I guess you would say they were the first REAL super popular punk band to hit the scene. I like em. Lot of punks call em sell outs though. See now you should never meander through art my dear. you need to simply collect and continue on. If you loved it in 79 then why not today. Thats why I have a taste for music as wide ranging as punk to folk to cajun to thrash metal.

an awesome awesome punk band is Bowling For Soup. In the US you might have heard "The Girl All The Bad Guys Want" on the radio, but in other countries you probably heard "Emily" They are so freakin awesome, and have great shows. You cant even appreciate them till you see them live

This (forum posting), we have a small farm with an old farmhouse that needs love, two children, painting, collecting stuff from the 20's through the early sixties, and of course, my gardens. Sometime after 45, my metabolism slowed down (they said it would! ) , trying to do everything I'm supposed to keeps me way too busy, so taking naps is my secret pleasure! And you?

My Entirely Irrelevant List...
the Clash (naturally)
They Might Be Giants (not punk, but I have this obsessive need to recommend them to everyone I come in contact with) NoFX (they amuse me) the Butthole Surfers (no comment) Second Best (haha--my friend George is making me put this on) Big D and the Kids Table Mighty Mighty Bosstones Lit (really good) Bowling For Soup (listen to the bitch song) Fugazi New York Dolls (oh, I love them!!!!) the Distillers AFI (wow I hope they don't go mainstream...) Siouxsie and the Banshees X-Ray Spex (that saxophone...) the Cramps (their cover of "fever" by peggy lee is good) DEAD KENNEDIES!!!! (Is it "Kennedies" or "Kennedys"?)
