Re: Re: Music Survey
What genre of music is your favorite?
I don't have one. I like all kinds. At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? About 15 or so, when I discovered the magic of The Beatles. Before that, not really. We didn't have a stereo or anything when I was growing up. We had a couple of radios but I never really got into listening to the radio. I still hate listening to the radio.... However, I went through an embarassing New Kids on the Block phase, as well as a solid gold hits 80s phase. When I started high school I started out liking mainstream stuff briefly, like the cranberries, and stuff. Ace to Base. Anyone remember them? It wasn't long after that that I saw the Beatles Anthology on tv, and was converted. Then I didn't listen to anything else until I was 17 or so, and I discovered Bob Dylan, and David Bowie. How often do you attend a concert? Not very often. I went to a Puccini opera recently.... Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Yes. I adore Beethoven. Do you admire the Beatles? Uh, see above. The Beatles are the Bees knees. How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? Quite often. I have a bit of everything on iTunes, and the BF is revisiting his classical music roots (he has a Bachelor of Music specialising in composition from the University of Auckland), so I never lack for anything to listen to. At the moment I'm going through a mozart/chopin phase. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) Yep. When I was 14 all I listened to was mainstream crap. And even then, I wasn't overly interested in music. I remember making fun of my friend for liking Michael Jackson and Guns 'n Roses, and another friend for liking Queen. I was a narrow-minded little bitch when I was young. A year later, I became one of the few Beatles fanatics in my school. In my year there was only one other, and we used to sing beatles songs in home-room when we were supposed to be reading. Still, the Beatles didn't immediately open the door to other stuff. It wasn't until I managed to convince myself that I liked Bob Dylan, that I really managed to 'grow' in terms of music tastes. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? Bleh. If I want to listen to jazz, I'll frellin' listen to jazz. She's boring, and mainstream. Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock. Pop. Depends on the mood. Who is your favorite musician/band? I don't know. I like too much stuff. And they're all good in their own little ways. Beatles, Led Zep, Mozart, Bob Dylan, The Who, David Bowie, Neal Young, Johnny Cash, Sinatra.... lots of stuff. In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) No way. Music is crap today. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? I think they were more influenced by celtic mythology than Tolkienism. Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? I can sing really badly....

What genre of music is your favorite?
Rock/metal/goth At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? 11-12 How often do you attend a concert? When ever theres a decent band playing here - and if I can afford it (so not often at the minute) - never been to anything classical Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Yes he was a great composer Do you admire the Beatles? Yes! I love the Beatles. How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? It depends what mood I'm in. I like some stuff, not all of it. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) Yes. Though not much. I was the one who got attacked in the courtyard at school, for telling Britney fans that she wasn't even pretty in her first video, and that I've heard better things come out of a dying cat. (Same for the 'boy bands') What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? Don't really like it. It's too laid back (and not in the good stoner music ways) Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Do you really have to ask? Rock. Who is your favorite musician/band? I have so many - Led Zep, Hendrix, Metallica, SOAD, Nirvana, The Small Faces, The Animals, The Dammed, Meatloaf, QotSA, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Status Quo, Cake, The Rasmus, Manson, Motorhead, Queen, HIM..... just to name a few. In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) No. It's totally s*** now. Of course there are some exceptions. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? I think they were influenced by alot of things. Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? Violin and piano, and I'm starting guitar soon.

[B]What genre of music is your favorite?
[power] metal and rock. At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? 14-15, actually... How often do you attend a concert? When a good band is around and I have the money (never, in other words). Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Gotta get some credit for becoming so famous, but can't say I've heard much of him Do you admire the Beatles? Was my favorite band for at least six years! Still love 'em. How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? Very seldom, and when I do it's mostly in order to relax. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) Of course. I was pretty uninterested in music for a few years (excepting Beatles and the Stones), but then I found metal. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? Only heard one or two songs by her, they were ok. Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock! Who is your favorite musician/band? Blind Guardian, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers... In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) Depends. The 80's were nice. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? Yes. Whatever they say. Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? Nope.

Re: Music Survey
What genre of music is your favorite?
I don't go by genres, music sounds good, or it doesn't! At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? I really started getting interested around 12 or 13, when I started buying 45's that excited me. Of course I would then play them to death and drive all my people crazy. My parents NEVER listened to music, but my big brother was always trying to play his electric guitar with the Jimi Hendrix and Beatles songs of the day. I listened to my little transistor radio, under my pillow, to the WIFE Good Guys, to catch all the Beatles (and all the other good stuff of the 60's) songs, as soon as they came out. After the FM revolution...it was all about buying albums. How often do you attend a concert? I don't go to any now. Totally reached saturation point! I've been to far too many concerts to begin to even remember one fourth of them. (I'm sure it's well over the 1000 mark. I worked at a record store for years...which meant free tickets to everything... and I pretty much dated musicians exclusively till I married my (muscian ) husband...it was ALL about music from 16 to 30! ) I would go to a local thing if an old friend (or my hubby) was doing something. I enjoy watching concerts on tv...in the comfort of my home. We recently listened to the Grand Ole Opry over the internet....pumped through our big Advent speakers. That sounded GREAT! Marty Stuart's band was up, and you could even hear them plugging in the amps...superlative! (also the name of Marty's newest band! ) Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) yes, I guess! I certainly don't disrespect him! But I know nothing much about classical (the slang term for classical was "Longhair" music, before the hippie generation came along! ) Do you admire the Beatles? I adore the Beatles! How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? Only on the car radio, when my husband puts a classical station on in desperation, because he is totally stressed out and he claims the classical music soothes him. It usually puts the kids to sleep, so it works! Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) A little, I like mellower (more soothing ) stuff sometimes. I have the "smooth jazz" station programed as a favorite on my car now, something I would have never done before...but I am forced to seek solace from to much excitement/input also. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with her. Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? I like good pop, and good rock...but I suppose I would favor good pop. Who is your favorite musician/band? I don't have a favorite. I insist on music with a good beat though, I love to dance...even if it's only in my mind now! In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) Ha! Ha! I don't think so! I thought the 60's was the most exciting decade for music, but all times have their bright spots. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? Farty noise...... Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? I fiddle around on the piano.

What genre of music is your favorite?
I like traditional folk and modern rock and a couple of things in between. At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? I've always been interested in music of almost all kinds. How often do you attend a concert? Whenever possible (which is not very often). Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Yes Do you admire the Beatles? Yes How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? Not as much as I used to. I like some of it (but not opera). Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) I suppose so. I used to like pop when I was much younger. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? I don't mind her, but she gets boring after a while. Jazzy "flavour" is the right word - not real jazz! Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock Who is your favorite musician/band? Lots. Eliza Carthy, Kate Rusby, Idlewild and Muse are quite high up the list. In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) It was good in the 1870s I don't like music of the 1970s/80s/90s so I'll say maybe yes. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? Don't have a clue Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? I play the piano.

What genre of music is your favorite?
Can't specify to a genre; I listen to a lot of different music. At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? I've always loved music. As a small child I listened to what my family listened to: Finnish music (dad), popular music (sister) and classic and folk (mum). How often do you attend a concert? Too seldom. I've totally been to about 5-10. Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) I cannot admire him, 'cause I've heard too little of his music. Do you admire the Beatles? No. I like them. How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? Not often. I do like it a lot don't ask why I listen to it so seldom.. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) Changed in the way that it has evolved and my taste is now wider. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? I like her music very much. Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock Who is your favorite musician/band? Queen In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) No, I think everything in today's popular music is the same. Boring. But there is still a lot of good music today if one finds it. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? No idea. Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? I've played the piano, but no more. I use my voice as an instrumen a lot (though it might not sound like a very well tuned instrument.. ) BTW, what are you gonna use this for?

My taste in music is very ecclectic. I have no real favorite. I enjoy music too much to compartmentalize my taste. At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? Music has always been a part of my life. When I was small, my Mom listened to the radio a lot during the early days of rock and roll, and she watched "American Bandstand" on TV. My Dad played a lot of bluegrass records and also Big Band stuff like Glenn Miller. Also, a lot of church music of the Bach/Handel variety. How often do you attend a concert? A couple times a year. There are community sponsored "Concerts by the Shore" that feature lots of different types of music during the summer. They're free. Bring a lawn chair and snacks, relax and enjoy a summer evening on Lake Ontario... Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Yes. Do you admire the Beatles? Yes. My first celebrity crush was on Paul McCartney. I was in 6th grade... How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? I listen to the local Public Radio station quite a bit. I like classical music quite a lot, really. Baroque is cool, but I like it all. I just have to get used to some of the modern stuff. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) Yes. I appreciate jazz much more now than I used to. There is so much variety in it. What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? I like her. She's good! Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock -- Classic Rock, anyway. Who is your favorite musician/band? I'm supposed to pick one??? In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) The '70's. No contest. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? I never got into Zep. Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? Please don't make me re-live the most unpleasant musical memories I have -- I took music lessons as a kid, and they were very traumatic!!!

What genre of music is your favorite?
i like all kinds of music: classical, classic hits, motown, blues, reggae, punk, metal, etc... but funky music with a good groove is near the top At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? since birth... my parents and my mother's siblings played us the beatles and all the other 60s groups from as early as i can remember... i remember figuring out how to get the white album to play on the record player when i was four How often do you attend a concert? through my high school years and my twenties, all the time (at least once a week if you include club shows)... now with the kids, once every month or two if i'm lucky Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) i admire him, but he is not one of my favorites... i prefer works that concentrate more on one or a few instruments than the symphonic form... like a chopin ballad or prelude over a mozart symphony... part of it may be because i'm a musician and symphonies tend to concentrate more on the piece than the performers... i like being able to distinguise the individual instruments Do you admire the Beatles? one of my many #1 favorites How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? i go in phases... i tend to pull out three to four cds and listen to them for a while, then move onto something else for a bit... it might be the beatles, it might be public enemy or primus or bob marley, or it might be chopin... no real order to it... though i tend to listen to the heavier stuff when i'm working on my basement... it carries well over the power tools Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) not really, mostly just grown... there are a few bands i listened to way back that got overplayed for me (U2, van halen, some of the 'classic hits' stuff), but even then... i just give them more time off What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? her stuff is much better than a lot of stuff you hear played way too much... that said, it doesn't excite me enough to actually buy it... i don't listen to truely 'mellow' music all that often, even by bands i like... i'm also not a huge jazz fan, though i like some of it... i prefer more straight or syncopated over the standard jazz shuffle Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? i like a good musician over a good song, which usually means rock... though you do get those occasions where pop musicians are both Who is your favorite musician/band? too many to choose... some i listen to a lot are james brown, beatles, hendrix, zepplin, bob marley, little feat, the meters, steely dan, king crimson, black flag, public enemy, red hot chili peppers, primus, chopin In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) each era had it's pluses and minuses... the 60s obviously had a lot of good stuff... the 70s had lots of easy listening junk, but also some good funk and soul music, not to mention reggae and punk at the end of it the 80s are a bit tougher, but maybe because i was in high school then and just heard it too much... van halen and U2 were good bands, i just have a hard time listening to them anymore the 90s grunge thing had a lot of good bands, soundgarden was one of my favorites, along with some pearl jam and some of the lesser-known bands... i enjoyed living colour too... and the rap scene has produced a lot of good musicians, though there is also a lot of trash to weed through i enjoy some current stuff... but am a bit out of touch as far as names of songs and artists go there's good music in every generation, you just have to search for it in some of them Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? directly in one that i can think of off the top of my head Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? bass guitar mainly, with the occasional acoustic guitar, harmonica and really bad percussion

What genre of music is your favorite?
'Classic' rock At what age did you start really getting interested in music?/What type of music were you raised on? 13ish... I got into Bruce Springsteen. Actually brought up on Nanci Griffith, Mary Black etc. How often do you attend a concert? No, but have seen Bruce... WOOT!! Do you admire Beethoven? (yes or no) Yes Do you admire the Beatles? Not so much How often do you listen to Classical Music? do you like it? I sing it in choir. I do like it, but am too intimidated by it. Has your music tastes changed over the last five/ten years? (or any number of years) No What do you think of Norah Jones? do you like the jazzy flavor of her music? Jury's out. I don't know if I like her voice. And she stole a Grammy from Bruce... recurring theme here. Which do/would you like better, Rock or Pop? Rock Who is your favorite musician/band? Bruce Springsteen (and Ryan Adams) In your opinion, is music better now than it was back in the 70's 80's 90's? (I'm probably talking about rock here....) Hell no. Do you think that Led Zeppelin was influenced by Tolkien for some of their songs? How would I know? Do you play an instrument?/which instrument? Guitar, harmonica and I sing (apparently) I actually have an album too!
