Hmm. I definitely love LOTR, but when I think of favourite books, some other authors keep coming into my mind too... whose books I really love and enjoy reading...
For me, Tolkien is a category in himself, somehow... apart from the other books I have. His works will always have a special place (on my bookshelf and in my mind ), and won't enter the "who-is-my-favourite" competition, because there's simply no need to. So... maybe it means he's my favourite after all

One reason that I really enjoy LOTR is the story and the way it is told. I have also enjoyed Asimov and Bradbury (sp? 451°F) even though they tell different type of stories. I would definitely have LOTR in my top 10 (probably top 5).

I love LOTR. I remember after I read it, I didn't even try to read anything else cause I was stuck in this 'Nothing could ever compare to that' phase. Lol. But, the thrill wore off... Sadly. Lol. It is still my all time favorite trilogy. ^.^

[pedanticman]it's not a trilogy[/pedanticman]
They (lotr, hobbil, sil) are some of my favourites, I also love GRR Martin, Frank Herbert's Dune, and Dan Simmons Hyperion. Also the original Foundation Trilogy.
