Gandalfs words on the bridge
He says, "I am an agent of the secret fire," which refers to that of Illuvatar, if memory serves.
But what I'm not sure of is when he says "wielder of the flame of Arnor." What is Arnor? I have a Middle-Earth encyclopedia, but the term is not listed. I am assuming it has to do with Illuvatar or the Valar as well. Does anyone here know for sure? I thought I'd list this here since it is dialogue from the movie

DISCLAIMER: I'm in internet explorer at uni, so I can't see everyone's replies for some stupid reason.
Anyway, it's the fire of Anor, not ARnor. And it basically translates to "sun." Meaning that it probably refers to Illuvatar. |

The Encyclopedia of Arda
A mysterious power claimed by Gandalf in the face of Durin's Bane. It is nowhere else referred to, and so its particular meaning remains unclear. Anor is the Sun, and so literally the 'flame of Anor' would be the light of the Sun, the fiery fruit of Laurelin, one of the Two Trees of Valinor. Gandalf seems to be referring, then, to the power he gains as a servant of the Lords of the West, in defiance to the corrupted darkness of the Balrog.
