Scary Elves!
Does anyone else find the elves in the Hobbit slightly scary and wierd? They are soooo different from the elves in LOTR. Like, aren't they supposed to be all sad and stuff because thier time is ending? Instead, their all foofoo and singing stuff like
Tra-lalala-lally We're high down in the valley I mean, thier just basically high elves! |

Probably those were mostly Silvan Elves. Also, their time hadn't ended yet.

Hahaha... high elves...
Yeah they were pretty damn creepy in the Hobbit. And they were far from the nicest people, always disappearing from the fellowship and getting them lost. If I was there with them I think I would have really liked to get my hands on one of those elves there and see where they hid then. I can't really blame Gimli.

We don't get to know them in the Hobbit. They seem like far away people who can't be understood. We learn much more about them in LotR and I guess that's the reason why we like (and understand) them more.

Scary would not be a word I would choose to describe them! Fun elves, "high" elves, (ha ha) goosey elves, hilarious elves..."Don't dip your beard in the foam father, It's much too long already!" (or something like that ) Those elves are far out, man!

In "The Hobbit" they were still a mysterious race, and they thought Dwarves looked funny so they made fun of them in their singing.

Mirkwood is a place where you have take care of yourself in order to survive. Surley that makes them seem scary.

Yah, they did seem a little...... different in the hobbit. But I suppose that it is like Gwaimir said; Their time hadn't ended yet! So..... I wonder if that is what elves would be like if they weren't so depressed about the ring, and the ending of there time (In the LotR books)?

I thought the elves were rather creepy and mysterious. I read the LOTR before I read the Hobbit so my idea of a Mirkwood elf was a Lothlorien elf (ya know cause they're both wood elves). But when I read the Hobbit they were nothing like that a dark scary stuffy forest and they like caves!!!! So shouldn't they have gotten along with the dwarves? But then I got to thinking and looked at a certain chapter in LOTR and it said something like the dark lord tried to reclaim his throne in Mirkwood and the time period this happened in is about the same time as the Hobbit took place. I don't know about you but if a dark lord was trying to take over my land then I would keep to myself too!

I'm talking about the Rivendell elves. I think those are the ones the "thread starter" meant. The (Mirk)wood elves were different, They did not do much for me.

The Elves in Rivendell were not strange, they were just ELVISH.

Wouldn't you become strange and scary if you had to live all your life in a wood - and we are talking of an immortal life. That's looooooong.
