"Bring Him Home" From Les Miserables
God on high, hear my prayer In my need, you have always been there He is young, he's afraid Let him rest, heaven blessed Bring him home, Bring him home, Bring him home He's like the son i might have known If God had granted me a son The summers die one by one How soon they fly on and on And I am old and will be gone Bring him peace, bring him joy, He is young, he is only a boy You can take, you can give Let him be, let him live If I die, let me die Let him live Bring him home Bring him home Bring...him...home I did that al from memory...whew!

My favorite is On My Own.
I saw it on stage in London. I also have read the UNABRIDGED version of the book. It took me a really long time. I would actually recommend the abridged version unless you like a real challenge. |

My favourite is also On my own. I just love it so much! I haven't seen Les Miserables but would really like to. We used to sing Les Mis at school. My other fave is Castle on a Cloud. i love singing and I feel the lyrics mean something to me sometimes.
......On my own Pretending he's beside me all alone I walk with him til morning Without him I feel his arm around me...... Is that right I haven't sang it for a while?

Stars in their multitudes, scarce to be counted Filling the backstage with disorder and electricity You are the sentinels, silent and sure, keeping watch on the stage Keeping watch on the stage You know your place in the backdrop You hold your shine and your glow And every night you turn on in time, and don't move at all And if you fall, 'cause somebody steps on you, you create a flame! And so it must be! For so it is written on the doorway to centrestage That those who step on the bulbs of glass must pay the price Lord keep me from them, that i won't break the precious props I could never pay Til then, this i swear, this i swear by the stars!!!!

Excellent!
As for my thoughts on Les Mis... never read the Hugo novel (intend to fully... possibly even in the original French) but the musical was amazing. "On My Own" makes me want to cry. My high school symphonic band actually played a wind ensemble arrangement of many of the tunes in Boubil/Schoenberg's musical, which went excellently well. Unfortunately, we did it late in the year, and never recorded it... I want to see the show again someday. Only seen it once. What amazes me is that someone has yet to tackle the Broadway musical on film, but I'd hate to see it done shoddily, when it could be an epic musical on the scale of the masterpieces of the mid-'60s. Now, if we could get Robert Wise and Ernest Lehman out of retirement...

Colm Winkinson was an awesome Valjean (pretty darn good Phantom too if I do say so myself)
I read that Les Mis is going off Broaway in April or May. It's the second longest running Broadway musical in history after Cats.

My friend Anita and I sang "A Little Fall of Rain" for a duet for our Music and Theatre class show. It was great, people even cried.

Oh Les Mis its soooo beautiful!!! I loved it! I'm notorious for my Fantine and the first song I ever sang in competition was On My Own when I started singing five years ago! I'd have loved to be in it when I was a little younger but now my voice has grown into more of the rock musicals so I'm aiming for Rent, WWRY, Tabooo etc! If the opportunity arose though I wouldn't say no! Hats off to the composers and of course Victor Hugo! Anyone ever seen the film with Liam Neeson in? Where was the end? It just stopped! Mx

*Ressurecting this thread from the depths of page 6*
I decided to give this some fresh air just because I just discovered Les Miserables for myself. I went to see the high school version about a month ago because our director was thinking about putting on this awesone production next year!!! Anyway, he told us going in to "Be nice, and don't expect it to be very good. Don't say anything mean anyway." That warning was totally unneeded. Everyone fell in love with the whole production. Yep...a month later, I have half the songs in my brain all day, and it's a life goal to play Eponine! I really LOVE "On My Own" "In My Life" and my very favorite *which I can't sing (except an octave or so higher)* "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." So I just HAD to share those obsessive little things. Now the thread can sink peacefully to page 6 again...

JAVERT!
JAVERT!! God i love javert!! His theme is so excellent. And the guy who played him at my school had this great voice, kinda gawky. And i thought he was cute (im sure no one else did). Stars was good.
My friend pointed out that part of Stars was stolen from Pink Floyd (love them). Something like "on the doorway to paradise"? Might have also stolen some lyrics from the Doors? Not sure. |

I was in a Les Mis production and On My Own is possibly one of my all time favs, as is I dreamed a dream and A Little Fall of Rain. It's really beautiful music and the show is great too. I think pretty much everyone goes through an 'Eponine' phase, liking someone who doesn't know (altho possibly not ending with getting shot on a barricade). That's why people like it I think.
