Gifts of Galadriel

In the Fellowship of the Ring, the makers left out a very important part
the gifts from Galadriel to the nine walkers.
They showed the phial to frodo but thats it.
Some things wouldn't have mattered but the cloaks and Lembas play a huge role in the next two books and what about the Elessar (Aragorn's green elfstone given him by Galadriel) that's where he gets his name, Elessar, they even left that out!!!

The gift giving scene will be included in the special dvd with 30+ minutes of footage added. As for Elessar, the ring whispers that name when Aragorn's hand comes close to it in his scene with Frodo towards the end of FOTR.

Arwen gives him the pendant in Rivendell in the movie.

He was called Ellesar before Galadriel gave him the pendant.

Romantic warriors have carried tokens of their ladies throughout romance. Usually the lady herself gives it. JRRT had the ladie's grandmother give it to him months later, but JRRT wasn't writing a movie script. PJ went for the direct association of the object to the person.

The cloaks are there. The pendants are there.

I hope we get to see her give a lock of her hair to Gimli, because that's Gimli's token, and he allows no ill to be spoken of Galadriel.

I think there is an important scene left out, though, near this point. One which shows how fitting a king Aragorn will be. When the elves want to bind Gimli's eyes and it looks like there will be a fight, Aragorn declares that they will all be blindfolded. It's like the wisdom of Solomon, and would truly develop the character. After all, shouldn't the viewer want Aragorn to be king for a reason more than just his sword?

The name "Elessar" was foretold for Aragorn, but he was not called that before Galadriel gave the stone to him.

The Elessar was the stone that was made in Gondolin for Idril and came to her son Earendil. Olorin (Gandalf) gave it to Galadriel when he came to Middle Earth and it came to Arwen.
In the movie, the stone given to Aragorn by Arwen is called the Evenstar, which in the books is one of her names.
Aragorn is names after the Elessar, also sometimes called Elfstone.

(The Evenstar is a necklace, The Elessar is a Brooch.)

But the gifts don't need to appear. nothing but frodo's phial is crucial to the plot.

I think the lembas is important, too, and wouldn't have taken long to put in.

They can easily skip the rope scene, and they will use Arwen's pendent instead of they Elessar.

The swords were delievered in a hokey way...then again why wouldn't a ranger have several "spare swords of arnor (tm)" along with him at all times?

Who wants to bet it was taken out to trim the length of the film, but will be on the DVD?

How can they replace the Elessar with the Evenstar, the Elessar was brought as a gift all the way from Valinor and made in Gondolin. It belonged to Earendil and is green. It's better than the Evenstar, no offense.

They don't explain the swan boat, but it is there. If they explained everything it would take 10 movies. hmmmm... I would go to all 10!

Does Alan Lee have to explain things? Or Ted Nasmith? We can accept just seeing the cloaks and brooches in a painting, why not in a movie? IMO, there is an amazing amount of detail if you look for it, but most of it isn't explained, like the stone trolls. They are there without explanation. If you know why they are there, you don't need it explained, but if you don't know then it's just ambience.

I'll try not to repeat myself too much about this, I promise, but the core of what I think is this: LotR is grounded in language. It was written by a linguist. There are linguistic things that connect in beautiful ways when you see them, like the loss of Gandalf followed by the whole party wearing grey cloaks - because they all carry a piece of Gandalf with them in their hearts. When you write prose or poetry using words you can do this. But when you have moving images, music, and dialogue, you present it differently. The better screenwriters can carry the linguistic connections onto the screen. So I look for that. I don't ask for explanations. Explanations are prose. I look for the things a painter does, or a composer. So when I see swan boats and hear people singing in Elvish, I am impressed.

I don't mean they have to explain it but the Elessar I gbelieve is better than the Evenstar. Sound crazy? Yeah, so?

By the way, what do you mean Sams box can be left out? How can Saruman's control of the Shire be left out?!?!?!? Really now!

Yup, I'm afraid the Scouring is left out. (I died and was reincarnated when I heard that) I agree about the Elessar, maybe Arwen will give it to him when she comes to Helms Deep?
