Best Director Chances, check this out...
Ok, so I heard this rumor about the Academy Award for Best Director and how to predict it pretty closely in comparison to the Best Director awarded by the Director's Guild of America. I heard that when a Director is given the award by the Directors Guild they are going to win the Academy Award as well. So I checked the past award winners for both the Academy Awards and the Directors Guild of America.
Here is what I found: Since the Director's Guild of America started giving awards away in 1948, this is the 56th year of the awards. I looked back over the past 55 years the awards were given out by both groups. What I found was this. The award has been given 55 times, and 49 times it was given to the same director in both the Academy Awards and the Directors Guild of America. So with that being said, only 6 times the two awards have been different over the past 55 years. Pretty good odds there! This, the 56th year, the nominees for the Directors Guild of America are: SOFIA COPPOLA - LOST IN TRANSLATION CLINT EASTWOOD - MYSTIC RIVER PETER JACKSON - THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING GARY ROSS - SEABISCUIT PETER WEIR - MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD The Directors Guild Awards are given on Saturday, February 7, 2004. So if Peter Jackson ends up winning the Directors Guild Award next month, then there is a pretty damn good chance he will win the Academy Award as well ![]() P.S. The DGA website is here: http://www.dga.org/

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh.
