ARAGORN AND Gandalf ARE related!!!

Ok well Milien (or whatever her name was havent read the sillmirion for a while) was a maia. She married thingol. They Had Luthien. The had a kid. The kids kid was called elwing. She married Earendil. They had elround and Elros. Isildor is decended from Elros. Aragorn is decended from isildor. Therefore he is decended fro, Milien. If all the maia are related Gandalf is Milien's brother (or something like that) So he is distently related to aragorn!

And if your sister is your aunt and your mother marries your uncle, you'd be your own grandpa. Just kidding. I haven't read the Silmarillion yet, so I guess I'll have to take your word for it.

Yeah, I'm related to Adam (on the dunlandish side).. but that don't mean I get invited to the family reunions.

Well, if you want to look at it that way, then Aragorn and Arwen are related, before marriage.

That's so cool! I Guess that would either make Gandalf a greatgreat... uncle or a cousin removed ??? times.

If you put it that way, so are Saruman and Sauron to the bunch; siblings of Gandalf, really.

Well, when you look at it, so is everybody.

After all, Humans, Elves, and Ainur were all created by 'the allfather', Dwarves were created by an ainu, and the orcs were corrupted by one. Hobbits were somehow produced out of men. Maybe Midget inbreeding?

Just one big happy family.

Not to mention that a lot of Hobbits were related in the Shire and ended up marrying cousins.

Strange thoughts coming into my brain. Does that mean that Aragorn would be marrying his, like, fiftieth cousin, whatever times removed? That's not right!!!!! but, hey, I don't think that he was tracing his lineage to make sure he wasn't falling in love with one of his extreamly distant relitives. Who would?????

I think it's ok to marry not closer than your 3rd degree cousin.

In Aragorn's case, Arwen is his distant ancestor's cousin. I've never heard of another case like that, though.

I think as a Maia he is immortal, and would either dwell forever in Valinor, or return to Eru eventually.

I think everyone here has realized, more or less, that the theory pretty much falls apart. Gandalf and Melian were both Maiar, but it would be presumptuous to say they were brother and sister. There were brothers and sisters among the Ainur distinct from the rest of their kind. Manwe and Melkor were brothers, Irmo, Namo and Nienna were siblings, Yavanna and Vána were sisters (and Melian was said to be of their kin) and perhaps it should also be mentioned that Gandalf referred to Radagast as "my cousin" in The Hobbit.

And I felt sorry for my best friend with three sisters and one brother ...

Reading my post again, Aragorn is however related to Yavanna. He's descended from Melian through Lúthien after all, and Melian is of the kin of Yavanna. So, ... you could safely say that the blood of the Valar are in Elessar's veins.
