most useless actual professions

Think of a profession that if all members of it suddenly died would not matter much to the well being of the world.

I say fashion models.

I dont know about useless professions. But it annoys be how those who do insiginificant things get paid so much.

For example, a Football player gets paid millions just for playing a sport. He is not adding anything to the country or the world, simply playing a sport. Just a little thing that nags at me.

It's supply and demand after all! As long as people want to watch football, clubs will compete for the best players, and pay millions to attract the top players to their team.

I don't think professional athletes are useless at all! Sport and athletecism is, in my opinion, one of the greatest achievements of humanity along with art and music. Professional athletes inspire others to be active by joining their sport, and they also provide a great deal of entertainment!

(Whatever the Oilers make, they certainly deserve it!

I agree whole-heartedly that fashion models aren't very necessary to a functioning society. I would like to add the person who writes horoscopes, whoever is writing the Dear Abby column (and its offspring), and Tom Cruise.

Well, I would have to contend that the world (for some folks) would change if you got rid of horoscopes. Personally I think they're bunk, but there are some people who live their lives by them.

Well, that is true about horoscopes. However, whoever writes newspaper horoscopes is utterly useless at it. If someone was serious about horoscopes, I imagine they'd get a book of horoscopes with detailed ones that consider aspects of astrology that always get left out of the newspaper.

It's hard to think of truly useless professions, because they all exist because society wants or needs their services.

First, when I say doctors I meant specifically mainstream modern medical docs. I think you should google and research for yourself Dr. Len Horowitz; good place to start would be www.originofaids.com.

Just because there's a number of quacks and poisoners in the world, doesn't mean every doctor is untrustworthy. And frankly I prefer modern medical doctors over medieval leeches but maybe that's just me.

Well, the point is, it's not just a few. It is the over all profession, acadamia and policies that, while it is not open, encourages this.

Doctors don't tell you that flockin *****. Gold is for the brain. Even recently(1940s) they used it by putting it under the skin to treat cronic pain in the joints and migrain headaches; all that knowledge is gone from public view.

Actually, you'll note that I said "generically". What I meant was that in a generic sense, lawyers only exist because the human-contrived legal system is so imperfect.

Empirically, on the evidence of experience, I have found many of them to be extremely valuable.

In contrast, journalists ought to be invaluable (generically), but experience tells us that most of them are worse than useless, being as they are:
