Welcome to the Entmoot, Smeagol_For_President! If you could please be a bit more specific as to what you mean, I'm sure someone here can help you. Also, you might want to introduce yourself at the Welcome thread in General Discussion.
Have a pleasant stay here, and a wondrous journey through the world of Tolkien!

They went extinct.
No Females = No children No children = No population growth No population growth + Death rate = Negative population growth Negative population growth + time = Extinction

Did the Ents die? I think that they really just sort of 'faded' didn't they.

I think by fading, it means they 'faded' like the Elves 'faded'. There's a lot of disscussion abou this in the 'Are Ents immortal' thread

Gwaimir, my friend, it's time to start wearing a large white sign hanging around your neck: I AM A MALE AND MY NAME IS NOT GWAIHIR! P.S. You are a guy, right? P.P.S. On topic: the Elves faded by diminishing in glory and going West. The Ents never had much real glory, and by all indications they didn't go West. Their fading would have to be of a different sort.

They went the same way as the Elves... I don't mean West! I meant that they were part of the old world and had no business in the Younger days. They either died or became Tree-ish.

I don't think the poster meant what ULTIMATELY happened, but what happened directly after the destruction of Isengard and the War of the Ring. We have info on everyone else in the Appendices, but not on Treebeard (that I remember). My guess is that he/ they all went back to herding trees, but were any left at Isengard, and if so, what did they do there? Did they oversee the replanting of the trees that had been cut?

I was wondering that too Evenstar1400.
Didn't merry say something about the tree's in the Old Forest talking and moving? So maybe the entwives went there and then got really mad and grumpy and then wanted to attack Buckland and all that. Last edited by Lady of Rohan : 02-05-2003 at 09:56 PM. |

Just FYI, there is a whole thread around here somewhere discussing What Happened to the Entwives. You might find some good theories in that one.

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.' 'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin "Oh. Do the books say that the Ents actually die?
Where does it say that? I had always hoped that they find the Entwives. |
