Faulty Towers

Any one ever watch this? It's bloody amazing!

If anyone could find a link for the scripts I would be much obliged(sp)!

Fawlty Towers, after Basil Fawlty, of course.

Found a couple of sites by googling for (amazingly) "Fawlty Towers Scripts", but apparently not all of them are available online.

My favorites, all from the second series:

The Psychiatrist
Waldorf Salad
Basil the Rat

A bit of advice:
When talking to Germans about Fawlty Towers:
DON'T MENTION THE WAR!
Basil did, but I think he covered it up.

And a link to one script:

Fawlty Towers is a classic

I don't know any links, but scripts are available to buy in book form.

I've recorded all the episodes. I love the one with Mrs. Richards

Quote:
Mrs. Richards: (to Manuel) Now, I've reserved a very quiet room, with a bath and a sea view. I specifically asked for a sea view in my written confirmation, so please be sure I have it.
Manuel: Que ?
Mrs. Richards: . . .What?
Manuel: . . .Que ?
Mrs. Richards: K?
Manuel: Si.
Mrs. Richards: C? (Manuel nods) KC? (Manuel looks puzzled) KC?
What are you trying to say?
Manuel: No, no--Que --what?
Mrs. Richards: K--what?
Manuel: Si! Que --what?
Mrs. Richards: C. K. Watt?
Manuel: . . .Yes.
Mrs. Richards: Who is C. K. Watt?
Manuel: Que?
Mrs. Richards: Is it the manager, Mr. Watt?
Manuel: Oh, manager!
Mrs. Richards: He is.
Manuel: Ah . . . Mr. Fawlty.
Mrs. Richards: What?
Manuel: Fawlty.
Mrs. Richards: What are you talking about, you silly little man. (turns to Polly, Mr. Thurston having gone) What is going on here? I ask him for my room, and he tells me the manager's a Mr. Watt and he's aged forty.
Manuel: No. No. Fawlty.
Mrs. Richards: Faulty? What's wrong with him?
Bloody hilarious

Got the scripts AND the video boxed sets, and the kids often pester me to play them - Basil thrashing his car with a sapling is their favourite moment.

How 12 sitcom episodes could produce so many classic moments is beyond me.

Perhaps there should be a seperate John Cleese thread. There are so many classic bits he's done, from The Dead Parrot to A Fish Called Wanda.

But one of my favorite, as a teacher and librarian, is his grammar instruction to Brian on how to properly write
"Romans Go Home."

What a motivational instructor!

[scary music]

CENTURION: What's this, then? 'Romanes Eunt Domus'? 'People called Romanes they go the house'?
BRIAN: It-- it says, 'Romans, go home'.
CENTURION: No, it doesn't. What's Latin for 'Roman'? Come on!
BRIAN: Aah!
CENTURION: Come on!
BRIAN: 'R-- Romanus'?
CENTURION: Goes like...?
BRIAN: 'Annus'?
CENTURION: Vocative plural of 'annus' is...?
BRIAN: Eh. 'Anni'?
CENTURION: 'Romani'. 'Eunt'? What is 'eunt'?
BRIAN: 'Go'. Let--
CENTURION: Conjugate the verb 'to go'.
BRIAN: Uh. 'Ire'. Uh, 'eo'. 'Is'. 'It'. 'Imus'. 'Itis'. 'Eunt'.
CENTURION: So 'eunt' is...?
BRIAN: Ah, huh, third person plural, uh, present indicative. Uh, 'they go'.
CENTURION: But 'Romans, go home' is an order, so you must use the...?
BRIAN: The... imperative!
CENTURION: Which is...?
BRIAN: Umm! Oh. Oh. Um, 'i'. 'I'!
CENTURION: How many Romans?
BRIAN: Ah! 'I'-- Plural. Plural. 'Ite'. 'Ite'.
CENTURION: 'Ite'.
BRIAN: Ah. Eh.
CENTURION: 'Domus'?
BRIAN: Eh.
CENTURION: Nominative?
BRIAN: Oh.
CENTURION: 'Go home'? This is motion towards. Isn't it, boy?
BRIAN: Ah. Ah, dative, sir! Ahh! No, not dative! Not the dative, sir! No! Ah! Oh, the... accusative! Accusative! Ah! 'Domum', sir! 'Ad domum'! Ah! Oooh! Ah!
CENTURION: Except that 'domus' takes the...?
BRIAN: The locative, sir!
CENTURION: Which is...?!
BRIAN: 'Domum'.
CENTURION: 'Domum'.
BRIAN: Aaah! Ah.
CENTURION: 'Um'. Understand?
BRIAN: Yes, sir.
CENTURION: Now, write it out a hundred times.
BRIAN: Yes, sir. Thank you, sir. Hail Caesar, sir.
CENTURION: Hail Caesar. If it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your balls off.
BRIAN: Oh, thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. Hail Caesar and everything, sir! Oh. Mmm! Finished!
ROMAN SOLDIER STIG: Right. Now don't do it again.

I never really became a fan, but watched the show in snippets. What I always found funny (as an architect, I guess) was how you went up the stairs to the second floor - and back down a few stairs... the stairs going up overshot the floor for some reason... I found that amusing! (I AM thinking of the correct show, right?)

True! Must admit I don't know how much was shot on location and how much in the studio, but that would fit the bill. A lot of, shall we say, not-quite-top-class British hotels are big old Regency houses converted for the job, with all sorts of little architectural quirks like that.

The sets tended to shake whenever Basil banged into them, so I'm not sure we should expect too much realism in terms of architecture

Oh - but why strive for realism when the deviations therefrom are so amusing!

"I am from Barcelona."

Fawlty Towers rules! My favourite episodes would be the Waldorf Salad, the one with Mrs. Richards, and the Germans. I own two of the tapes, and have every intention of getting the others.

Watched the episode with the Germans again and I laughed as if it had been the first time I watched it. Fawlty Towers never gets boring it seems
