Who's "The Oldest"? Bombadil or Treebeard
This has probably been mentioned before. If so, clue me in! It seems like in the books, they are both called "The oldest". What gives?

This has been discussed a lot...do a search to see what threads you can dig up and possibly ressurect. I'd be interested to see fresh opinions on this topic.

Thank you Renille, After I searched, I realize how kind you are to answer me. Nobody knows, and everybody is sick of it! I can live with that. Personally, I think Tolkien might have slipped up a little. I always felt like Bombadil was a weird fish out of water in middle earth. Forget about it!!

I think Bombadil is oldest, because I think he's a Maia, thus having lived before Arda was created.

You are probably right Elf Girl. I also think he's a time traveler, last seen as that "Keep on truckin" guy from the ""Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" comic books. He must have lost his hat.

Since this topic has been discussed on numerous occasions and there is no definative answer to be given, and the author of the thread has done a thorough search through other threads, then I see no reason to continue this one.
