Why Lord of the Rings is better than Star Wars
Ok, you have to say why youthink Lord of the Rings is better than Star Wars.
LOTR is better because... Obi-Wan Kenobi and Gandalf both had someone in their debt. But the Eagle-king is MUCH better than an overgrown toad, Jar-Jar-Binks.[FONT=century gothic]

I just realized it's been a long time since I've been on this forum...
Eh, Jar Jar Binks was sort of the misfit of Star Wars... If you were to make a reference to which is better, I would prefer the reference be made to the older Star Wars. I don't have a favorite at all. They're both great trilogies in many ways. Perhaps because it's hard to follow the Lord of the Rings movies over the books, sometimes I'd say Star Wars. Then again, with the new Star Wars installments, I'd say the Lord of the Rings... I'm just going to conclude that I have no favorites.

'What are we going to do now then?' asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows. "Knock on the door with your head, Peregrin Took,' said Gandalf. 'But if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words.' 'Fool of a Took!' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party. Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be quiet!' |

The first Star Wars trilogy was great (particularly ANH and ESB). But there really is no comparison, especially once PJ releases The Return of the King

As far as the films go I like the original Star Wars Trilogy better then LotR.
As far as the books Star Wars is not even close to LotR.

While I enjoy watching Star Wars, I'd have to say LotR is better, even though I don't really like the movies, seeing as I'm a Tolkien-fanatic. Star Wars are great movies, but the newer installments really, well, suck. The original trilogy was a great collection of films, but because of the prequels' badness, LotR will always get my vote.

The Lord of the Rings is better than Star Wars because it is classical literature...oh, you meant the movies! Well, the movies aren't better than Star Wars.
Side Note: Congrats, BB! You've reached your 500th post! You can now select a Custom Title. If you'd like to take advantage of this feature, just come up with a title, and PM it to one of the admins (Sister Golden Hair is probably your best bet).

If you put your mind to it you, will come up with the appropriate title. Maybe "The Black Knight" to play off of your screen name.

Believe it or not, I had never seen ESB or ROTJ until last year. I watched all 3 of the enhance versions in one night.
I missed the whole Star Wars thing when it happened in the 70's. I just wasn't into it. I did see the first one, however. As a story, I think Star Wars is pretty awesome. The whole aspect of a Jedi Knight is fascinating, and I don't think they went in depth on that subject enough. Lord of the Rings is, of course, my all time favorite book, besides the Silmarillion, which is basically its prequel. So far, I think the Lord of the Rings movies have created more of a realistic feeling parallel world. Maybe it is because of technological advances in film making, but that is not the question here. Lastly, (and this is a point that no sane person can argue) is that the acting in LOTR is absolutely excellant while the acting in Star Wars is mediocre, especially in Attack of the Clones. This seals the deal for me.

LOTR is better that SW cuz-
-the acting is better -the story is better -the special effects are better -the guys is LOTR are better looking (not to be all wishy-washy there) -the hobbits are cuter than the Ewoks (a little wishy-washy there, though) -Arwen doesn't turn out to be Aragorn's sister -the Fellowship isn't stupid enough to fly their star-ship (well, if they had one) into the mouth of a giant crater-worm -Yoda's lightsabering doesn't hold a candle to Gollum's fish-killing methods -Gimli is much more comprehendable than Chewie -Gandalf is smarter than Obi Wan and Qui Gon -Frodo doesn't have a mother who says "There is no other way"- he gets to say it himself -there's nothing in SW quite as disgusting as the Orcs -Leia doesn't get to kill a witch-king -Sauron doesn't cackle and say "Young Skywalker" all the time -Saurman doesn't say things like "Apology accepted, Captain Lurtz" -the clothes in LOTR are much better than anything in SW -the Mos Eisley cantina band doesn't play any songs like 'Hey Ho To The Bottle I Go' -Elrond's hairdos are better than Leia's -there are no Balrogs in SW -nobody says "Good shot, Red2!" a bazzilion times in LOTR -no one exclaims "I haaaavvveee a baaaad feeling about this!" in LOTR -Merry and Pippin bicker better than C3P0 and R2D2 (actually, this is debatable) btw, I used to be a big Star Wars fan, so I'm allowed to pick on it

IMHO, TTT was just AOTC in a SFC setting. :P They were both cheesy action movies with only the most superficial of plots. TPM was pretty cheesy at times, as well. However, neither of the jackson movies hold a candle to the original Star Wars trilogy, which was, after all, made back when filmakers held themselves to a standard and special effects were secondary to plot action and characterization.

well, to be honest, Star Wars (at least OT most people will agree with me on) movies are better than the lotr movies...
Don't get me wrong, the Lotr movies are good - but they aren't classics (not yet anyway)....they aren't as good. I think the prequels are just as enjoyable as the lotr movies in every way. And as for comparing a great work of literature to a great work of a film is just silly - they are two separate great things! Of course Star Wars is better than Lotr movies.

LotR is better because people dont jump from 300 feet and remain unscathed.

Ugh no.
LOTR is by far better than the new ones. The old ones are closer to LOTR but IMO LOTR is better.
