While I doubt many people would be like, "Ye gods, a woman running for president. How scandalous", I do think most people be either less or more inclined to vote for a woman than for a man. Less because of a (in most cases) gut reaction against it, or more because of a desire to seem open-minded and inclusive, which I think was a lot of the impetus behind the faction that supported Arinze as the successor to the Holy Father. Don't get me wrong, he's a great man, and he would be I think the second best after Pope Benedict, but people had a tendency to play up the black factor too much.

Yes, and I agree about Arinze. That was a big question of my dad's, Arinze black, or Benedict long-timer? It wouldn't be a bad thing if he was the next pope...

Bertgoglio or Castrillo would be good; I also like Schonborn, even if he is a heretic.

Last election, I favoured Arinze, largely because he was the one I knew the most about.

Aha...Benedict reluctee, eh? (notice, reluctee is not a real word...to my knowledge. But once again, my genius for new words...)

I knew about Arinze and Ratzinger the most...they were the names that came up the most.

Its good to know people actually talk about pope candidates as if they are soccer teams or something.

Just buy generic 'pope on a rope" soap and you'll do fine. It's recommended by Father Guido Sarduci.

Ahaha, awesome! I kind of feel bad for Benedict, since he has to follow Pope John Paul. What a hard act to follow eh? John Paul was the best pope ever.

I have to laugh at how far we are from the topic though. What does a woman candidate for the American presidency have in common with a male religious leader who's elected by a select group of white men?

Predominantly white, perhaps, but far from exclusively.

Why not exclusively? Only the cardinals vote for the Pope, and there's only 90 (or something) of them.

you know, I still have a hard time adjusting to the fac tthat Benedict is the Pope and not John Paul II...for the longest time during mass, when the priest prays for the Pope and he says Benedict, I jept thinking...no you're wrong; it's john Paul!

but aside from that I think that Arinze is a great choice. He seems like he would be really into helping the countries of Africa out.

At first it was kinda strange, but now I can't think of it any other way...

May as well hold a poll here, no?

Gwai, I'm supoosin' you will be voting for Arinze, so I guess that makes two.

Another question: How long will Benedict last? He's a pretty old guy already...on the other hand, he's a hardly german, isnt he?

EDIT: I meant HARDY, Gwai

Because they are a number of black and Asian cardinals. See?

But anyway, only cardinals who have not turned 80 vote for il papa, and there are app. 120 of those now.

I would like to protest. I did not have the hubris to start a thread on "Pope Candidates", despite whatever slander Earniel might spread about me.

I'm hoping HH Pope Benedict holds out long enough that Arinze will be too old by the time his turn rolls around; therefore, I vote for me.

Need you ask? Obviously, the Pope has more super-powers than the Metropolitan.
