Gandalf wore the ring Narya. This was the third of the Three Rings of the Elves given to him by Cirdan. It was the Ring of Fire and had the power to strengthen hearts. Galadriel wore Nenya, the Ring of Water. Elrond wore Vilya, the mightiest of the Three Rings given to him by Gil-galad. Vilya was the Ring of Air.

Okay, lets try (only the real bearers of the Rings are mention, not person that touched it, even if they actually wore it on thier finger like Bombadil)
The One: Sauron - Isildur - Deagol - Semagol - Bilbo - Frodo - Sam - Frodo - Semagol (fallen into Orodruin with him) The Three: Nenya: Celebrimbor - Gilgalagd - Elrond (shiped into the West) Vilya: Celebrimbor - Galadriel (shiped into the West) Narya: Celebrimbor - Gilgalad - Cirdan - Gandalf (shiped into the West) The Seven: 1. Celebrimbor - Durin III. - ...(all the kings of Durin's Folk in succsesion [look in Apendix AIII of the Lord of the Rings for more Names])... - Thrór II. - Thráin II. - Sauron 2. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Firebeards)... - Sauron (or destroied by Dragon-fire) 3. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Broadbeams)... - Sauron (or destroied by Dragon-fire) 4. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Ironfists)... - (Sauron or) destroied by Dragon-fire 5. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Blacklocks)... - (Sauron or) destroied by Dragon-fire 6. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Stonefeets)... - (Sauron or) destroied by Dragon-fire 7. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - ...(some of the Kings of the Stiflocks)... - (Sauron or) destroied by Dragon-fire The Nine: 1. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - The Witchking - Sauron 2. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled B in HoME 7 - Sauron 3. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled C in HoME 7 - Sauron 4. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - Kahmul - Sauron 5. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled E in HoME 7 - Sauron 6. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled F in HoME 7 - Sauron 7. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled G in HoME 7 - Sauron 8. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled H in HoME 7 - Sauron 9. A smith of Eregion - Sauron - one of the Nazgul, labeled I in HoME 7 - Sauron That is the best, I can do for you. The Names of the Seven kindreds of the Dwarves is found in HoME 12 and I think it is most probable that Sauron wone the three of the western kindreds back while that in the far east were destroied but that's only my oppinion. For the Seven and the Nine it is possible that Celebrimbor had them all in his possesion for a time, before they were occupaied by Sauron. Respectfully Findegil Some small pionts to add: Where ever I wrote "A smith of Eregion" it could be also Celebrimbor himself and in the case of the first of the seven it is only may assumption that it was Celebrimbor, but could also be some other smith. My assumption that the seven were given to the seven houses of the dwarves is based only on the text in the Silmarillion were it is said that on the ground of each of the seven treasure of the dwarves of old lie one golden ring. But that cloud be also otherwise. I added same remarks on the final fate of the rings. Where ever Sauron was the final possesor, I think the Rings were destroied in the downfall of Barad-dur like the Ithil-palantir. Last edited by Findegil : 01-10-2003 at 08:06 AM. |

Wow, Findegil, you really know your stuff! If I could just add one thing: the last time Gollum(Smeagol) had the Ring, it went itno the Fires of Mount Doom, so maybe the One Ring list could go like this:Sauron - Isildur - Deagol - Semagol - Bilbo - Frodo - Sam - Frodo - Semagol -Mount Doom
