The official "What's the Elvish?" thread
I have a question about an Elvish word, and, seeing as there aren't any threads for this, I thought I'd start one.
A friend is creating an Elf in the LOTR RPG, and he wants his name to mean Silver Arrow. He found a site which had a translator into Sindarin, which wasn't very accurate in Elvish. It had pilin as Sindarin for arrow, and I just wanted to know if the more learned speakers of the Elvish-tongues would verify this, or inform me that it's incorrect. P.S. Do Silvan Elves use Sindarin names?

Pilinn-Arrow
Celeb-Silver Most Silvan Elves probably used Sindarin, or at least a dialect of Sindarin (I think) (Pilin is Quenya)

That's really one thing I would like to know--is there a book or website that teaches you to speak Elvish? I know a few phrases basically from translated the movie Elvish and the phrases in the book.

Yeah, when I went back, I found out so was the word he was using, Ilsa. I doubt Silvan Elves know Quenya.

Although you must remember that one cannot learn to speak elvish because it is not a developped enough language and there is not enough vocabulary to hold an everyday conversation.

As they say, the best is www.ardalambion.com, most likely has vast word files. If you want the translator (which I don't think was very accurate) it's at http://www.elendor.net/translator.php
