Tolkien's message =to die with dignity. Can any one help explain this interpretation

dignity - 'dig-n&-tE - (n.) 1 : the quality or state of being worthy, honored, or esteemed 2 a : high rank, office, or position b : a legal title of nobility or honor 3 archaic : DIGNITARY 4 : formal reserve or seriousness of manner, appearance, or language I think it's something like dying (and living) for something you know is right.

I believe it refers to the way humans will cling to life, even if it makes them miserable.
The numenoreans as a prime example-the were given great vitality, but they were expected to lay it down at the end of their lives. Aragorn did the same thing. Contrast that to the way ar-pharazon would do anything to gain a few more years to a life which had already lost it's joy. The way denethor was willing to 'spend even his sons' before he went into danger himself.
