Sieges: Isildur and Anarion
Who long did Minas Ithil hold before it was taken?
IIRC didn't Anarion hold Minas Arnor and Osgiliath for about five years before the Last Alliance crosses the Misty mountains? It would seem that was one truly outstanding general to hold them both against Sauron while he had the the Ring .

It did not seem right to me that one who contributes so much to Entmoot and is so eager for knowledge should receive no replies to his topic. So I'm bumping it up in the hopes that some one who is less lazy than I will respond with answers.

I have heard that Anarion did indeed do that, but I am sorry to say I have nothing to confirm it with. Sorry.

I find your question about Anarion intriquing. The early years of the Dunedain are vague and not enough is written of Elendil and his sons to assuage my curiosity. Must've been quite chaotic in ME at the time considering that it was the end of an Age and the beginning of an Age...a period of momentous change. |

Well they had about a century to orgnize their kingdoms. About one generation of procreation among the Dunedain, and 3 among the 'normal' lifetime subjects. Durring this organizational phase, coopting the local Numenorians and Numenorian influenced other men, dealing with hostile tribes, Saurons forces and allies, and various other persons not enthusiatic about said kingdoms, I expect that military preparedness was a high priority on their 'to do list'.

Thankyou for your input Lefty, it was quite insightful. I had not considered the single generation angle before. I had heard that Sauron wanted to destroy the Dunedain before they could take root, which is sound military strategy. The Numenorian refugees countered as best they could constructing defenses in Isengard, on Weathertop, Minas Tirith, Minas Ithil, Helms Deep and other places. Not bad for one generation.
