concerning ents, and the old forest
I have my own theories of how ents and the old forest are related. But what do you think? are they entwives? are they ent-like trees, or tree-like ents? what about the old grey willow(or whatever bombadil called him) well, what are your thoughts. oh and no spoilers if theres something important I haven't read about the old forest like if they were entwives that later went back to fangorn or something of that sort.

No, the Entwives were never found in LotR. My theory is that they were somewhere near the Shire, though, based on the conversation Sam had in the bar at the beginning of the story.

i seem to remember reading a passagr from Letters where Tolkien wrote very pessimistically about the Entwives, saying that he didn't think they could have survived into the 3rd age...
but the "walking tree" near the Shire, combined with Merry & Pippin's talk with Fangorn about the Entwives & how they would enjoy the Shire makes me think that at least some of them lived. don't think they'd go to Valinor, they belong to Middle-Earth. aryne * |
