Uruk Hai
No 'S' runes on the helmets in the film, I played the newest LOTR board game with it's expension yesterday and John Howe's Uruk Hai in that didn't have 'S' runes either, is that just a characteristic of his work that he missed that bit of the story? Ought to be more careful John...

Maybe no 'S'rune, but they did wear the sign of the white hand. At least that's something.

But I don't think the White Hand was on their faces in the books, was it?

When Lurtz was running through the forest and he looked sideways at Legolas on the river, I had a flashback to Last of the Mohicans. Just the way they portrayed him running reminded me of Hawkeye.
I wonder if in TTT, if the Uruk-Hai will have the white hand on their face or the 'S' rune. They must have something to distinguish them from the orcs of Mordor. Maybe the Mordor orcs will have the Lidless Eye on their helmets or shields or something.

I'm thinking lidless eye vs. white hand in TTT. That would work, lack of an 'S' rune is fine by me, it's not like it's a major plot change or anything!

Two things that I'm fearing in following films: That orc-trip of Merry and Pippin is left into few carrying moments and orcs of Mordor are completely forgotten (at least they weren't among the attackers) and that Saruman and Sauron have only orcs in their troops, becouse Jackson fears racism accuses.
Well, I hope, that my fears are proved wrong. |

I guess for people who haven't read the book, they might think that 'S' might be for Saruman or Sauron. I personally don't think that it really matters. I'm not that nitpicky.

Well, if someone were nitpicky enough to be mad about the lack of an 'S' rune, then I cringe to think what they would be saying about all the other changes they're putting in!

I somewhat doubt, that people who haven't read the book could recognise the S-rune as S.

An S rune looks like this <. Somebody who was claming to make a film of the books should know it well enough to get the details right, especially the ones that are easy to get right. Alas for poor directorship and decision-making.
