You'll need a Sindarin name, if you didn't know, but I don't know where a good Sindarin vocab. list is.

The names of any of the chieftains of the Dunedain of Eriador would work. So, too, would any of the names of Elves from Beleriand (in The Silmarillion.
Keep in mind that the chieftains of the Dunedain were claiming royal authority with the "Ar/Ara-" prefix. Halbarad is an example of a Dunadan who was not claiming royal authority. |

I could translate some stuff if you get ideas for a name in English, of you could give me a basic idea of what sort of name your looking for and I could see what I can do for you.

I have that book also, but in the words of Helgeh Fauskanger "it was not very good to begin with and is now horribly outdated" (an e-mail). Helgeh Fauskanger is, I have learned, well-respected in the Tolkienien linguistic community. He runs the Ardalambion. Indeed Ruth S. Noel is generally looked down upon by the linguistic community, as David Day is by the historians.

There's a good Sindarin word list at Ardalambion, Nolendil. As far as word combination goes, though, your on your own, Warrior.

Just model names around those of Gondrians. They are Sindarin aren't they. It would be unlikely that a ranger would have an egyptian name. Interestingly numenorian culture is supposed to be quasi-egypt like so there's a connection.

If anyone needs names for stories, go to mapmage.com
It has a NameMage on it that will generate random names in whatever category you need. What's really great is that they have an entire category for Tolkien and one for Eddings...

Hm, that's convinient, Nariel.
I posted this in the 'anyone speak elvish thread,' but I think I'll ask here too, since it's a ranger name I'm going for: How would I combine the (s) word parts 'maew' and 'hul' into a name (male)? Any ideas? |

Menelvagor, what Sindarin list are you thinking of? The only thing I've seen on the Ardalambion for Sindarin is A Taste of Elvish. There's no wordlist to match that of Quenya, that's for sure.
