A question about the Hobbiton set.
What happened to it after they were done shooting? They paid an older guy to let them build it on a part of his property. It was so neat looking do you think he would have wanted it removed after them shoot? It would have only caused damage to the land if it had been. Unless alot of work was going to be done to restor the ground to as it had been. I mean, actual HOLES were cut into the ground for the hobbit holes (tho not entire underground houses were made, just enough dirt was moved so people could go in and out of them) and actual gardens were planted...I'm just curious. Anyone know for sure?

Well, Peter Jackson is using the larger sized Bag End set for a guest home on his property.

The Hobbiton set was burnt down, possibly for the Mirror of Galadriel sequence.

I read somewhere that they re-landscaped the farm to it's original state. Hobbiton is gone

I'm in!
I heard they had to make a Gandalf and Hobbit sized Bag-End. Two identical replicas. |

yes, they had to make size doubles and in some cases triples for the scenry and costumes.
ohh i would love to have helped build that, or make costumes (just so everyone knows, i am a total freak about backstage things)

I was under the impression that the farmer who had let PJ build the Hobbiton set on his land had retained it, and was now taking daily tourist coach tours to the site.

I heard in an interview today with PJ on NPR that they did indeed bulldoze Hobbiton.
