The only thing I liked about the Hobbit.
My only favorite part of the hobbit was when that strange guy in the cave told all those riddles to Bilbo, and finally the famous "Whatses in his pocketses" line came up. That's the only part I actually liked in the book.

Re: The only thing I liked about the Hobbit.
Well, I'm glad you liked something about the book . The "strange guy" was Gollum and his line was "What has it got in its pocketses?"

I liked all of it. Did you read LOTR also? That kind of adds to the enjoyment.

Actually I drew Gimli's mug-shot, and he doesn't really like it! So I'll say thanks for the compliment.

Re: Hey Elanor!
I liked pretty much all of the Hobbit, How can you say you only liked that bit? It was a great book!

Re: Hey Elanor!
Most of "The Hobbit" was great, and remains my favorite fantasy novel of all time, but there were parts that I believe could have been left out. For instance, the battle of the five armies at the end was too long. I thought that the book would end after Smaug was killed, but the Dwarves had to go and act like Dwarves, so they all got in a big fight. That's probably the only complaint I have, and I'm not really serious about hating that part anyway.

I enjoyed the whole book and the Gollum chapter was terrific. It's interesting to read this chapter now, after having read LOTR a few times, because there's no way of knowing or anticipating the role Gollum would play in the destiny of the Ring.

Dare I ask how you acquired a hobbit to even taste (my traps have all failed)?
The Hobbit gave the LotR background, so even people I know who don't like it admit it is somewhat nessecary to the overall understanding of events.
