That time sounds a little too long to be seriously put in a movie if it was uninterrupted.

No, it depends how it's done. As long as it remains fresh, exciting and complex, a watchable forty-five-minute battle isn't far-fetched...
And if Helm's Deep is going to be that big, think about how big Pelennor's going to be.

45 minutes uninterrupted? No way! I don't think I could watch that much battle, it gets so boring after a while. I'm fine with 15 minutes, getting bored soon after that but how could you get that much time in an action sequence?
If they keep it exciting it *might* work, but they'd have to keep introducing new things to do that. I seriously hope this is just a rumor.

It's also possible that they're using "Battle of Helm's Deep" synonymously with the "Siege of Helm's Deep." The siege was exciting, but it wasn't non-stop fighting.

it would not be non stop fighting there would be build up i would imigin they wpould have them been chased to helms deep and the build up then get into the setting up and massing of troops then the attack. the breaking of the wall and all the events described in the book then the riders braking the seige and the ents comming to helps so theres a lot to fit into that 45 minutes.
I think it could be a best large set peice ever. i timed the battles inthe first movie and they last little over 10 mins each so 45 mins will be amazing

45 minutes? Well then they'd have to fast foward the scenes with Sam and Frodo and I dont think they'd do that unless they'd want lovers of Ithillien scenes on their case and that is something they wouldn't want.
But it's probably just a rumor like that one about the elves levitating the Hobbits and all into the trees as the orcs attack, 45 minutes is a TAD too long for that. Sam ps. What's the URL?

SPOILERS: The One Ring
The report of 45 minutes of battle at Helm's Deep originated from The One Ring article here:
http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/2/1025872678 That was on 7/5/02, however today (7/8/02) there is a 'retraction' of most of that information also coming from The One Ring: http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/8/1026157737 Should be noted that the report does not specifically deny that Helm's Deep will be 45 minutes long, nor does it refute the information about Haldir and the elves deaths at HD. |

If you include the seige, you could probably fill 45 minutes of film with the period of the battle - though not solid action, I wouldn't think. But hell yes, it's just a rumour, I'm happy to wait for the release.
btw I am so looking forward to the Pelennor Fields - hope it doesn't disappoint!

45 minutes is a little too long for ANY one thing interupted, I think. If they do combine Helm's Deep with Isengard, it would be okay. But Helm's Deep for 45 MINUTES? Maybe they'll include Gimli's cave with Helm's Deep. Or most probably, it's just a rumor. I hope so, at least.

Speaking of battles, I ran across this on Amazon's trivia page:
"For high-tech tasks, a computer program called MASSIVE made armies of CG(computer generated) orcs, elves and humans. These digital creations could 'think' and battle independently, identify friend or foe -- thanks to individual fields of vision -- Jackson's team could click on one creature in a crowd scene of 20,000 and see through his "eyes." Different species even boast unique fighting styles. It is reported that on the first run of the fight sequences using the MASSIVE Artificial Intelligence program, the intelligent fighters -- programmed to fight in the most efficient manner possible -- all turned and ran away." That proves they're intelligent. |

But I expect they'll use the same CG programs for Helm's Deep, minus elves but plus Easterlings, Rohirrim, etc. |

And to make things worse, I read that same artticle thing and it said that Haldir is supposedly one of the elves that dies at Helm's Deep. I will never forgive PJ if that is true!

probably a bit of both - something to do with having a battle in 'all that rain and mud, never mind the damage those walls could do to your nails' - i mean if lady G was going to send some elven warriors, is that the best she could do !!??
