Oh yes bring it on! Andy Serkis was brilliant and the creative team as well obviously. I actually came out believing Gollum was a really real person- as much as Eliyah or Orlando etc! I think the movie should be up for Oscars in most departments anyway- and this time maybe get the one's it really deserves but hey if it doesn't fingers crossed for the Bafta's! Mx

No, only the Golden Globe nominations have been announced so far. TTT is up for Best Dramatic Picture and Best Director. Oscar nominations aren't for awhile.

In my local paper today, there is a Los Angeles Times article by P.J. Huffstutter and Alex Pham that states, "Already, Hollywood is talking about Academy Award nominations both for the team that gave Gollum life and the actor who gave him a soul." So that is as much as I've heard about this subject.

I think New Line just submitted possible candidates (or something like that, I'm not really sure how it works). From what I remember they submitted Andy Serkis, Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and the guy who plays Theoden (forget his name).

Oscar nominations are announced February 11th. It would be great if Serkis gets one, but considering the bias the Academy has for fantasy films, I really doubt it.

Yeah, I think Andy Serkis DEFINITELY deserves an award for his portrayal of Gollum. That was just...so...completely...wow. He was absolutely superb, especially the split-personality part.

A minor technicality, but... how can he have a nomination if they haven't been announced yet? Unless you're talking about the Golden Globes?

I agree that Serkis should get an Oscar for his portrayal of Gollum. I'm kind of torn whether anyone else deserves an Oscar [or nod] this time around. I certainly won't be upset if Bernard Hill is not listed as a Best Supporting Actor nominee. His was a real let-down of a performance, but I would have to say it is the way the character is written, not his acting talents which came up short in this film.
Serkis really pulled Gollum out of the ether and gave him real life. The CGI team deserves an Oscar, without a Shadow of a doubt.

A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." Whether or not it's true, I think it would be awesome for Andy to get an Oscar nomantin. He obviously worked very hard on the film, and he added some much neede homur that I don't think anyone else could have done as funny

I think he deserves it aswell. He did the voice and the actions. Plus Smeagol is one of the best characters in it.
