Rekindling of The Two Trees of Valinor?
I was reading the Book of Lost Tales 1, and on p. 200 I found this: "...Many things shall be done and come to pass, and the Gods shall grow old, and the Elves come nigh to fading, ere ye shall see the rekindling of these Trees {telperion and laurelin}..." Did this concept carry through to LOTR? If so, wouldn't the Two Trees we rekindled around LOTR because the Elves are fading then...

Book of Lost Tales, you say? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the Book of Lost Tales was a separate mythology than that of LotR and the Silmarillion. If that's true, Tolkien might have changed his mind later on in the LotR mythology.

I haven't read Lost Tales. Methinks I ought to do so sometime in the near future, hmm? Interesting idea, though.
By the way, Khamul, I love your signature!

BoLTs is the old mythology. Certian things from it have been incorperated into the mythology that we know as LotRs and the Sil. Tolkien changed his mind about many things, many times throughout the course of these myths, but they are absolutely and intirely seperate.

I know...
I was wondering if that theory of the two trees lasted through to the final version of the mythologies? It might just be unmentioned in LOTR since LOTR is told from individual characters' perceptions and since none of them tell of Valinor I suppose we wouldn't know anyways...
