Baring the Body vs Baring the Soul
Which would you find easier. Baring your body in front of complete strangers or baring your soul in front of these same strangers? *Mixed crowd, male/female/young/old/different races/religions*
By baring your soul, I mean talking to them about everything that makes you laugh, cry, shiver and shake, get angry and undure misery etc... By baring your body, I mean removing all of your clothing and standing there for their inspection, horns, warts and all. Think about it...aren't I mean? |

Isn't this a little like asking "If you could only let one person live, would it be your mom or your dad?"

Doh--I forgot to answer in my first post because I was so busy being a smart-ass .
I'd rather bear my soul, really. Well, actually it depends on if I had to tell them EVERYTHING about myself :P. I have a FEW secrets I'd rather keep! |

Body clearly. its just skin and flesh. the soul is a near impossibility.

I've grown up pretty sheltered. For me, baring the soul would be easier.

well i vote to see Spock! best, BB your body is as your body is, generally, you and all else would quickly get used to it and the intital reluctance of standing before them naked would fade i beleive. baring your soul: wow! Would you be able to see it and see what sort of state it's in too? If so i'd go the whole hogg and do the soul: (might as well be naked at this point anyway!) if only to be able to see it as is - it wouldn't be perfect but i beleive it would stand well before my peers or audience in general. if not then i'd now what either spiritually or morally i needed to work on, etc. im interested by what people mean in this context by the soul and how it'd be viewd though? (edit: and i agree with I REX re: the soul: if you did do that: whatever the potential intense pychological reaction to seeing your souls stripped naked, if you did confront that, you'd certainly not give a hoot about mere phsyical nakedness: if you were given thatchance either in private or public would you dare do it though? esp when you consider there's a chance ( depending o n various views) this may happen in death or some sort of judgment anyway? i agree its the ultimate test or trial but IF you could do it would you? I would, just on the basis i mayfind i have a spiritual Soul Train to catch! BB Last edited by Butterbeer : 04-21-2005 at 03:27 PM. |

Baring the body would be way easier for me. (I think! )Once it's over with it's over with. People see bodies all the time. But baring my soul...it would be weird to think that those complete strangers know you and...I don't know...If people could see your soul you may as well be naked, I would think!!!
EDIT: Oh, I said the same thing as Butterbeer. lol

I'd bare my body. I don't see any reason to make another choice.
But I'm not sure exactly what a soul is.. Has someone got a good definition?

Here's a simple definition of what I think a soul is -
I've never met you in person, Nel, so I've never seen your "body". Yet when I see a post is from you, I smile and read it because I like you. I think your "soul" is what I like. It's what makes you, you.

That is a good definition, except I don't think you can know someone from their Moot posts. (In real life, I'm not a cafe owner who rants about gay rights all the time, I'm a forestry student who talks about trees and food all the time. And draws too much in class.)
If I had to choose between the two, I'd bare my soul. If it's in front of strangers, I don't care what they think anyway. If it was in front of friends, I'd still bare my soul. There are things I've done and thought that I'd rather not share, but even then I'd still have my dignity. I'm not adverse to being naked, but it depends on the situation. I'm happy to wear nothing but a toque in a sauna, but there's not way I'm going to let a lot of strangers oggle me.

Then there's always the possibility the person baring, hasn't got a soul and is a walk-in.

A person might be a soul-less walk-in closet?
