Article: "New Potter Wizard is... Gandalf!"
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2002600303,00.html
"THE actor who plays Gandalf in The Lord Of The Rings has landed another wizard role in the next Harry Potter film. "SIR IAN McKELLEN, whose latest Lord Of The Rings film The Two Towers is top of the movie charts, is set to take over from the late RICHARD HARRIS as Professor Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter." Hmmmmm. Kind of strange.

"...[The Lord of the Rings] is to exemplify most clearly a recurrent theme: the place in 'world politics' of the unforeseen and unforeseeable acts of will, and deeds of virtue of the apparently small, ungreat, fogotten in the places of the Wise and Great (good as well as evil). A moral of the whole (after the primary symbolism of the Ring, as the will to mere power, seeking to make itself objective by physical force and mechanism, and so also inevitably by lies) is the obvious one that without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless." Letters of JRR Tolkien, page 160. |

I hope the new director has enough savvy to play it up.
When Dumbledore forbids the Dementors from Hogwarts grounds, he could say, "You shall not pass!" a la the scene on the bridge of Kazad Dum. That would be great. The old director, Christopher Columbus, would have never done it. |

So they dumped Chris Columbus? Hmm, see, I didn't know he made the movies a verbatim copy of the book. I just thought the movies sucked because the books sucked. Whooops.

*raises eyebrow* Harry potter. Nooooo. *gags self with spork* Sir Ian McKellen is to cool to be Dumbledor, dammit.
Okay, I'm done ranting. You can ignore me, since most of you will probably disagree. *skips off to her field of daisies*

While I never thought that McKellen was a really good Gandalf, I certainly wouldn't like him to be in HP; having played Gandalf, even in PJ's movies, dignifies him too much for that, IMO. Of course, I don't like Harry Potter. I'm sure the fans of LotR and HP will be ecstatic.

Although I too have my doubts about the validity of the 'news' reports it should be mentioned that the quote from McKellen.com denying the rumor is from November. Here's the entire quote . . note the date:

I think that it would be really really neat if ian Mekellen played Dumbledore. I thought Richard Harris was great though... Does anyone know know why it is Sir Ian Meckellen? I want to become a 'sir' when I grow up... even though I am a girl. How do you become one?

Oh God, i hope he isn't! When i read this last night i was in the middle of the local Radio Shack and freaked out! I was like, "MOM! NO! he can't do that! it'll ruin him!" I don tknow if i'm overly paranoid, but i do not want Sir Ian McKellen as Dumbledore, i don't know why, i just don't. Unfortunately that is not my decision, but i do hope he doesn't do it.

I'm fairly sure that Sir Ian McKellen and Christopher Lee will not be playing Dumbledore. Both have denied it in press realeases. It would be interesting if Christopher Lee played Dumbledore, then he would be in three of the biggest movies ever.
