FOCUS: Who would you like to see win an Oscar? What project, or person, do you think deserves one? What and/or who do you think WILL win, as opposed to who you think SHOULD win?


Me:
~ I want Crash for Best Picture.

~ Because I think she is not only hot, but an amazing budding new acting genius and talent, Keira Knightley for Best Actress. If she doesn't get it, then my second choice is Charlize Theron. God I love Charlize Theron.

~ I want Frances McDormand for best supporting actress, even though I have not seen the movie she's up for. I just like her; I always have. Not only that, but it is high time she won something; she is a brilliant and engaging actor.

~ Best supporting actor? Well, I saw Syriana, and loved George Clooney's bit, but I also saw Matt Dillon and loved HIS bit in Crash, so it's a toss-up. Probably Matt Dillon. The jury's still out; I'll get back to you all on that.

~ Best actor - I don't EVEN have an opinion yet. That list, man most of those guys give me the creeps. Philip Seymour Hoffman gives me the creeps, always, as does Terence Howard, AND David Strathairn *shudders*. Heath Ledger wins points just for being eminently tasty eye-candy, but what kind of criterion is THAT to hand over an Oscar for? Joaquin Phoenix I used to really love, but lately he strikes me as a fake, so... still haven't seen Walk The Line yet, so... jury's still out.

Best Original Song - I nominate "In The Deep," from the movie Crash. Those of you out there who know me pretty well by now are probably going "What? She's not nominating the Hustle and Flow song?" You know why? Because pimping is wrong and disgusting, and no amount of Hollywood glorifying and commercialising of the concept will ever change that fact. to pimp other human beings is f**king foul, wrong, utterly disgusting and will NEVER be even slightly O.K. or acceptable, no matter what the entertainment machine tells you. Nothing makes pimping cool or art-worthy, no song, no movie, nothing. I loathe pimps, and pimping/pandering in general. Pimps infuriate me. I didn't even want to bother seeing Hustle and Flow. It'll just piss me off.

(edit to add) - actually, Hustle and Flow is about a pimp who redeems himself by eschewing his old life in lieu of becoming an artist, so that's good. The whole concept of pimping and pandering still gets me crazy with rage, though. I have always hated pimps.

Best Documentary Feature has GOT to, GOT to be awarded to March of the Penguins.

Best Director? Paul Haggis. I still haven't seen Brokeback Mountain; I'm sure it's a lovely movie but why do I have the feeling it's just going to be another one of those over-the-top, self-congratulatory, Oh-aren't-we-the-bomb, oh-aren't-we-making-such-an-important-and-beautiful-statement, kind of movies? I just have this feeling... But if I'm wrong, perhaps I'm wrong. Still have to see the movie. I know Ang Lee is an awesome director, so it'll be worht seeing, for that reason alone, since he directed it.

Best Original Screenplay? Either Woody Allen or Paul Haggis & his co-writer.

Best Animated Film - I will say Wallace & Grommit for now, since everywhere I read great things about that little movie AND my cynical & hyper-critical English Dad loved it and says I must see it. You don't have to be reasonable here, folks; you can root for whomever or whatever film you feel like! After all, we are not members of the Academy, right?

Some of these movies I havn't yet seen so my opion will be based on hear say and what I have seen.

Best picture: like you I hope Crash wins. I love those "tie all the characters in " movies. I really think "Walk The Line" should have been nominated. (you'll see a theme here )

Best Suporting Actress: Rachel Weisz....two words....so hot I've got a feeling Michelle Williams will win though.

Best Supporting Actor: Though I'd like to see William Hunt win, A History of Violence was an awesome movie!, Clooney will win...its his year.

Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon ..no maybes about it.

Best Actor:Joaquin Phoenix "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash"

Best Director: Clooney...like i said it's his year

Best Original Screenplay: Crash, though I think Syriana might have a chance

Best Adapted Screenplay: A History of Violence....I can dream can't I

Best Foreign Film: I'ev seen none or heard anything about them

Best Animated Film: Wallace and Grommit...so funny

I would LOVE to see that William Hurt movie. I really love William Hurt; I bet it's an awesome performance. Gotta see that "A History of Violence."

I was replying to each category saying what movies I'd seen, who I want to win, who I think will actually win. But then I gave up. :P

I've seen all the best picture nominated except for Brokeback Mountain. Of the other movies nominated - I've seen most of them.

Hobbit, you're such a perfectionist! You can just tell us a category or two, what you personally really like and want to see win, or think will win. It's all for fun! A friend of mine in Hollywood, who gets all the Oscar contenders films on DVD from a friend of HIS who is an actual member of the Academy; one of the judges - anyway, he used to have Oscar parties every year, and all KINDS of people would show up, and they'd get drunk (and some of 'em high ) and hob-nob with whatever celebrities happened to come over (like twelve-fourteen years ago, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, and Judd Nelson, and Charlie Sheen used to come to his house for ALL the parties) and fill out party-ballots as to who they thought would win, and there would be an Oscar betting pool and whomever guessed the most actual winners after the party (and ceremonies) was over, well whatever. Then they got a prize or whatever, and of course won the pot. Gambling, Hollywood style. I was supposed to go to one of these parties three years ago but I was too busy being bad, doing something else - I forget what.

I would LOVE to throw an Oscar party someday! But in lieu of such a fantasy shindig, we could just post our guesses here, and whomever gets the most actual winners, well then they get special Entmoot respect, or whatever!

I was just telling you guys about the Oscar-guessing parties my freinf throws in Hollywood, but here and now in this here thread, everyone can post whatever they like about any of the contenders, for whatever reason. Who are your favourites to win, Farimir? You can have two lists if you like: Who you WANT to win, and who you think will ACTUALLY win. Sometimes they might be matching lists, sometimes not. Am I making this too complicated? For instance, I WANT Keira Knightley to win Best Actress, but I have a feeling the Academy will give Reese Witherspoon the golden guy for her Walk The Line part. And I WANT "Crash" to win Best Picture but I bet you dollars to donuts they hand it to "Brokeback Mountain."

Despite a bit of a rush last week to see as many Oscar-nominated films as possible, I don't think I've seen enough to comment.

I think Bareback Mountain is a sure favourite for Best Picture, with the momentum it has experienced over the last few months.

I want Keira to win. But I don't think hers was the winning performance. Between Knightley, Theron & Witherspoon, I think Reese will win. I didn't get to see Huffman...

March of the Penguins has my vote.

As does Phoenix for Best Actor. But I have a feeling that Hoffman will take this. I liked him in Happiness.

The Oscars is almost over. Still waiting to see what gets Best Picture. Well, Reese Witherspoon won Best Actress, I knew she would, but the BIG surprise was Philip Seymour Hoffman winning Best Actor, for his Truman Capote. It was very endearing, watching him so excited, and trembling, thanking his mother profusely! I love watching when they win. Another big surprise tonight - Three 6 Mafia for Best Song - that surprised EVERYbody! Ooo oo oo - gotta go; it's back on!
