THE HOBBITS

The first draft for Chapter X is up! What will they find at the ruins of Dol Guldur!

Thanks again for all the help and encouragement!

Michael Martinez has written an article that outlines some of the difficulties I am facing! You can read it here. A fascinating look at one critic's discouraging views of attempts to write a Lord of the Rings sequel!

I would tell you why he's wrong, but that would spoil the story, wouldn't it?

Re: THE HOBBITS

There is decidedly less interest here than elsewhere, nonetheless, just to let some few of you know, Chapter XI of THE HOBBITS is drafted now!

Re: THE HOBBITS

Chapter XII is now available for preview.

Not interested? Some folk seem to think this is a good tale so far...

Re: THE HOBBITS

You think _that's_ uninterest? Try posting a 'which Vala would you serve if you were a Maia' thread. That gets them. For myself, I haven't read Chapter II yet.

Re: THE HOBBITS

Free advertising. I think this story is quite good. So far I have yet to notice any continuity errors (but I haven't really been looking for them either).

Re: THE HOBBITS

Chapter XIII is now up!

By the way, MM had a kind word for the beginning of the work in another forum, so he's now my favorite critic!

Re: THE HOBBITS

Now Chapter XIV is up at the draft forum. I don't expect to maintain this pace after April but it's moving along nicely right now.

Re: THE HOBBITS

Did he now? That's a surprise, er, begging your pardon, I love your work, but I didn't expect him to like it very much. What forum?

Re: THE HOBBITS

That would be the Silmarillion Draft forum at the Barrow-Downs in the Copywrite thread.

Working on Chapter XV. Will post today or tomorrow.

I don't mind giving MM a gentle poke once in a while! He's a big boy, and a Great Contributor to our general understanding of Middle-earth. I couldn't write THE HOBBITS without the help of his Suite 101 articles and the scholarship of individuals such as yourself, Eruve, Finduilas, Mithadan, Lindil, and some new guy "F" (whose name escapes me at the moment) who caught some egregious errors way back in Chapter One!

I have only recently acquired the HOME and the LETTERS and I already see that I will never match the understanding that you folk have, even if I do hope to at least become more conversant in the Lore of the Legendarium.

Re: THE HOBBITS

Have you suddenly been stricken by amnesia? Don't you remember my e-mails? From Ranadwelt? You aught to refer to them! 'Some new guy' would be Falmarion. That's me!

Re: THE HOBBITS

I was going to post something, but I forgot what it was...

Oh yeah! Chapter XV is up on the drafting forum!

Here's a sample of the work:

Quote:
As they crossed the narrow bridge over the rushing Bruinen, leaving finally their wagon behind, bells began to ring and voices began to sing, for Eldarion was born, the Heir of Elendil, son of King Elessar Telcontar and Queen Arwen Undomiel. This is something like the songs they sang, though not as lovely or as meaningful by far.

Ring, ring, O ring our every bell
throughout the vale of Rivendell!
Raise your voices high and sing
in gladness for the Queen and King!
Bless their son so elven fair,
the noble prince, Elendil's Heir!
May he remember Westernesse
and not forsake old Elvinesse.
His mind be wise, his hand be strong,
his heart be kind, his reign be long!
May the White Tree ever grow
so everyone who sees will know
the Valar blessed this Mid-Year's Day
so Men might never lose their way!
From Fornost to Ithilien,
let all the folk have joy for him,
the noblest son of Elf and Man
all praises for Eldarian!

All Rivendell was as full of joy as it had ever been at the moment of this blessed event. How all the elves and elf maidens and men and women of the hidden valley, gathered together in a great throng, cheered when the King came out into the golden sun gleaming upon a great balcony of the Last Homely House! But the joyous sound was little compared to the thunderous outcry of voices fair when the beautiful Queen stepped out to join him, cradling the baby Heir in her slender arms.
Sorry, Randawelt/Inoldonil/Falmarion! I'm just confused! I thought the three of you were rather scholarly lore-seekers...

"THE HOBBITS" sounds good. How is it I missed it skimming through the Bare-bones site? I'll have to check it out again.

Chapter XVIII -- PURSUIT

I am now sure that I will NOT finish this month, having lost more than a week to illness and busy-ness. More busy-ness lies ahead, unfortunately!

Congratulations on the new ENTMOOT MODERATORS!

Why thank you! I hope your sickness if gone, and the Son of Gilthal is well enough to please those who have the ear with his brilliant spells of tales?
