Martin Csokas As Celeborn???
I am sorry and sad to say that this actor was not that elvish. He had a round face (an elf with a cherubic face!!?!) that was not as like to the part as one would like. Plus he only had one line! Celeborn though perhaps not as IMPORTANT as Galadriel was still of note. He was no cheapo "wood elf" but was originally alive in the time of the Silmarillion and supposedly a kinsmen (or part of that group) of Thingol, one of the greatest of the elf kings. Perhaps we will see more of him in the half hour of extra DVD footage.
Do you all agree or you think I'm just being to picky? Open debate is welcome my fellow middle earthlings! Personally, I think the most elvish looking elf was Haldir. His face was cool...his hair shined...they did a good job with him. Craig Parker did that role well. How about HIM as Celeborn? Legolas was pretty good.....as far as LOOKING his part. You do have to take into consideration that it is hard to find actors who really and truely LOOK like elves. Elves have a rather unique physiology...plus the whole glow in the dark thing throughs a lot of digital artists and FXmeisters for a loop!

i think you're just being picky. so what if he doesn't look like an elf, it's not like they exist for us to hire one

i don't think either one of them looked very 'elvish', but i'm notoriously picky when it comes to who is playing my kinsmen .
i do think that orlando bloom looked very elvish, he's got the right face shape. same goes for hugo weaving, although i still always see him as Agent Smith!!!

Markedel- I know the actual people of Celeborn is ambiguous....I am familiar with that...but he is a very ancient elf married to a rather important person. I say he should have been more elvish!

I didn't think Martin Csokas was quite Celeborn-ish, or Elvish. I think I (and Pippin Skywalker, etc.) am being picky, but sometimes picky is okay. I don't think he looked the part, nor acted it like the elf Celeborn is. So, yeah, I would agree, Pippin Skywalker.
If you get Agent Smith out of your mind, I think Hugo Weaving worked, too. Mostly. But I keep thinking. . ."Mister Bagginss. You seem to have been leading two lives. . ." Haldir was great. So was Legolas. In looks, and acting/overall elvishness. But I thought the most "elvish" person in the entire movie was Cate Blanchett as Galadriel. But I guess we were talking about male elves. . .

I had no problem with Celeborn or any of the other elven characters EXCEPT :
1) Elrond (Agent Smith is DEFINITELY NOT fair of face, as LOTR describes) 2) The guard-elves standing behind Haldir in Lothlorien. Male or female? Probably male. But really strange looking. Especially when directly compared to Haldir. Just an enquiry, but did Tolkien ever give a description of an elven face that is not synonomous with the average human face, although slightly "fairer"? NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
How can ANYONE think Csokas didnt play the part of an elf PERFECTLY? I LOVED him in it and I think he was sooooo cool and I'm sorry but he looked more elven like than Legolas! Oh dear Frodo... Eowyn144 is gping to kill me! Ok. So maybe Legolas did look like an elf but still, he reminded me of Robin Hood too many times! I shall sum this all up by simply typing: CELEBORN IS COOL!

The main thing to annoy me about the elves was that Tolkien states quite clearly they suffer nothing like blemishes, wrinkles etc.
Close up on Elrond I thought I was looking at a moonscape with all those craters, and close up of Liv 'ugly' Tyler all I can see are those tiny brown skin thingies that are in fact several feet high on the screen. No no NO! Elves had flawless skin at all times! Lucky sods |

Okay, so elves have flawless skin. Unfortunately, humans don't, and that's all there was to play the parts. I don't think it's possible to give actors perfect skin!
And although I don't think Hugo Weaving is as "fair of face" as an elf should be, I thought he worked because (when he wasnt' being sinister) he had an elven-ness about him. Well, that's what I thought anyway. I thought his best moments were in the Last Alliance battle. Although was he really supposed to be in command?

Even the best make-up department in the world cannot give a human perfect skin, Gerbil. It's impossible.

They don't have to give you perfect skin, just the illusion of perfect skin, and they do that regularly.
Just about all make-up commercials, for starters. |

Fine, fine, whatever, Gerbil. But still, elves with perfect skin weren't exactly the most important of things they had to worry about. Why bother caring about that when there are far more important things to spend money on in that movie. (and some less important things that they stuck in there. . .Galadriel's mirror and her going all wierd there. . .nevermind.)

I don't think that the guy who played Celeborn (I cant spell his name) looked the part or was included as much as he should have been. As for Haldir, from that moment he came on screen my friends and i was involved in a great debate if he was gay or not. They had the impression that Haldir looked and sounded gay and now burst into laughter evrytime we saw the film after that.
(Not funny when the other people in the cinema start telling you to be quiet and all you can hear is "he is sooooooo gay" "He is not gay" "Yes he is" "Haldir isn't gay!" The point of all that is that i don't think that Haldir looks the part

About Haldir-
The second I saw him near the borders of Lorien, I had instant inspiration for a "what were they really thinking" thing: "I am one d*** sexy elf!" Yup, I'm sure that's what he was thinking.

I'm not normally this stupid! Was he Ilsidurs father? Ugh. Need cornflakes. Maybe they will wake me up.

Haldir is an elf in Lorien. Do'nt remember much about him, don't have FOTR with me.
In the movie, he is the elf that comments on Gimli's loud breathing. The dwarf breathes so loud we could have shot him in the dark.
