Hippies Wanted!!!
ok, i know i only seem to poke my head 'round here when i need some help on an english paper but... i need help on an english paper
i'm doing it on hippies and how they helped change society's view of authority. it needs to have an interview in it, so i'm looking for someone to interview... a hippy to interview, to be exact so is anyone a hippy? would you be willing to be interviewed? if you are and you are (lol) reply to this or pm me and we'll set up the details... it would involve me speaking with you over the phone perhaps, or at least aim, just to warn everyone. (i'm not a serial killer or a stalker or anything i SWEAR! ) so yeah any help would be extremely appreciated! thanx guys!

If that's close enough, send me a pm- one problem is that I live in Taiwan, so if you want a phone interview you'd better have Skype

where the heck is that a quote from, butterbeer?! lol...
and thanx, gray mouser, i may actually take you up on that...those are all the experiences i'm trying to capture in this paper, so that would be great... do you have aim? that may actually be easier than a phone interview (specially as i'm in new jersey and you're in taiwan, and i had to look back at your post to be able to even spell taiwan correctly ) but i'll probably be pming you about all those details. thanks SO MUCH for goin' out on a limb for me! you're the best!!! (see, bb? THIS is why i came to entmoot- not cuz i thought i'd find a goldmine of hippies, but because the people are just so groovy that they could be...aside from our conservative tendencies...and patchouli-lacking scents... o.O )

Yep. They hang out at the nearby hot springs, in the nude.

Does a Hippie-Wannabe count? I've always wanted to live in the mountains and have a garden and grown my hair long, become a yoga master... almost hermit-type... Aaahhh, that sounds good. (I would of course still have my laptop and cable hook up!! ha!)

well, as far as that goes, my brothers are always calling me a hippy. i think this is rather uncalled for, as i am very conservative (despite some liberal leanings now and then) and the fact that i have no desire whatsoever to live in a commune.
i DO wish i had been born in the 60s though- very much! i ADORE the music of back then, and i love the look of clothing and just all the social revolutions going on then... *sigh* that would have been too cool

"Too cool". Hum. Maybe.
That era, even more than this, was subject to huge shifts in the social taboos. You could demonstrate for the right to wear open toed shoes to school (a right almost vanished now, like so many others) but if you were a girl you faced enormous pressure to be sexually "with it" at the almost certain cost of being seen as "damaged goods" if you went along with it. And it was a long time before any real choice about your economic life was possible. Mother, teacher, nurse were the top things to be.
As a boy, for many years the number that counted was your draft number. You could be plucked from your everyday concerns to slag through a jungle and, if you survived, more or less intact (not drug addicted, etc.) you came home to an uncertain welcome from so-called "peers" who had no idea what had happened to you, and maybe hated you just because you'd gone. If you didn't go, got a student deferment, tried for a CO, etc., you still faced prejudice as part of "the counter culture", even if you weren't, particularly. People were very polarized. You were "with us or against us." You were "part of the problem or part of the solution." Very cliquish, the '60's and '70's. Let alone race. Records get scratchy. I-pods are a better way to listen to that music, anyway. |
