Or try not spamming!
This post is off topic... but it had to be said. For future reference, a lot of questions can be answered by private messaging (PMing) someone who seems knowledgeable. Most of us are quite nice here (even me ) and would be happy to talk about Tolkien or the board. Plus, the board has an FAQ, and a search function as Radagast already mentioned. Better to bump an old thread than post a redundant one. PM me (or a mod or admin who are also very nice) anytime for tips on spam-free posting! Cheers, Nurv

i do, but it would be kind of hard to match such a great book as LoTR in a movie, but it was still a pretty good movie

moving! We try to keep all discussion comparing the movies with the books in the LOTR Movie Forum. ...and, while we DO have a number of similar threads, I'll leave this one open for now, since I don't believe any have been active for awhile. I'll likely find a good one to merge it with soon enough though.

Oh, most assuredly. Not that I hate the movies, but the books were superb.

It means he'll make two threads into one. If the other thread is older (which it will be) then the opening post will be the one from that thread and all posts ar arranged in time order.

This thread is kind of a... moot point... no pun intended, of course the Books are better than the films! No film, no song, no musical, nothing will ever match what Proffesor Tolkien has given us. The Lord of the Rings and all of Tolkiens other writings are a masterpiece! If you need any more proof the books are better than the films I have one word for you... Halbarad! Halbarad of the Dunedain was NOT in the films!!! How can the films match the power of a book that has Halbarad in it!?

Ah... "moot"... perhaps the most ill-used word ever.
moot·ed, moot·ing, mootsSo, what you're saying, Halbarad, is that this is worthy of discussion?

One wonders how the expression "a moot point" even originated in the sense it's used today. Maybe from sarcasm?

In the phrase 'a moot point', the word 'moot' is used as an adjective. The noun form of the word 'moot' refers to a meeting or gathering.
Actually, the most helpful usage in this particular case might be the legal sense. Or, as I paraphrase it - it isn't necessarily important but it's brought up for the subject of debate anyway.
