that's funny... my first thoughts were also shadow of the past (the first real history stuff we hear in the series) and flight to the ford (great action chapter)... a knife in the dark is pretty good for the action/drama too
if i was to add a third it would be the bridge at khazad dum where we get to see gandalf play the true wizard... the whole moria sequence has always been among my favorites

Too many to list!! I love all the old forest stuff, as well as barrowdowns, and the scouring, the choices of Master Samwise, all the Ithilien sequences.... *hopeless look* I couldn't hope to narrow it down to chapters... sorry.

An exhaustive list would be rather extensive, so:
1--- The Shadow of the Past and The Council of Elrond are "grabbers" that involve you in the story plot and history of middle-earth. I would imagine if they don't interest you you'd quit the story. 2--- The Ride of the Rohirrim (prose poetry, has to be read aloud). You can almost feel the energy of Theoden and the groung shaking at the Charge of the Rohirrim. (And what happened in the movie to their music? "...then all the host of Rohan burst into song, and they sang as they slew, for the joy of battle was on them, and the sound of their singing that was fair and terrible came even to the City." 3--- Flight to the Ford. I believe I still thought of elves as those irritating leprechauns or Keebler Elves until I read: Quote:
