a question about elf ears

I don't remember ever reading in any books (well, I've only read lotr and barely started the Silmarillion) that elves have pointy ears. Where does it say this? Not that I don't always think of elves as having them, and I know I would be sad and confused if they didn't (

), but I was just wondering if the elves-have-pointy-ears thing came from Tolkien himself or just leftover from out preconceptions of elves.

As far as I know, it is not stated in any of Tolkien's books that Elves have pointy ears.

But I'm glad the movie, as well as most fan art I've seen, shows them with pointy ears. Because I like the pointy ears. They're kinda cute

Eruviel Greenleaf: I've just seen that this is discussed in another thread called "A physical description of Elves". I'd refer to that for more info and feedback about them cute little elf ears!

I know, nameless, I read that thread just after starting this thread...oh well. I'll go read it again. And next time I ought to check for stuff like that before I start a new thread! *slinks off back to Mirkwood and climbs a tree, and looks in a mirror to answer my own question about ears*
