well the Ramones go without saying. That reminds me The Mr. T Experience. "Ramones Ramones!!!"

And yeah the Sex Pistols rock. Would you include Green Day as a punk band? I would but lots of true punks dont count them.

I was a "punk" (ha ha!) from 76 to 79. At that time "New Wave" was also lumped with Punk, and I favored those types of bands a little more. I am not familiar with Green Day! I've heard the name, but not the music. I was pretty old when I was "punk" (25), I enjoyed the very early stuff and then sort of moved on to rockabilly.

ah those were the cutting edge years for punk. kinda like being 18 when Woodstock hit. must have been pretty cool. what color was your hair then? must be cool to say yeah I was punk when disco was king. *laugh*

Well "New Wave" seperated from punk as a seperate entity right around 79-80 I guess. Then you had bands like the clash and later depeche mode and the smiths and stuff from there and eventually the goth movement evolved from there later on in the 80s.

Im surprised you know nothing about Green Day. I guess you would say they were the first REAL super popular punk band to hit the scene. I like em. Lot of punks call em sell outs though. See now you should never meander through art my dear. you need to simply collect and continue on. If you loved it in 79 then why not today. Thats why I have a taste for music as wide ranging as punk to folk to cajun to thrash metal.

an awesome awesome punk band is Bowling For Soup. In the US you might have heard "The Girl All The Bad Guys Want" on the radio, but in other countries you probably heard "Emily" They are so freakin awesome, and have great shows. You cant even appreciate them till you see them live

You crack me up! How old are you! (just curious) Yes, they were the cutting edge years. Disco was great too! Me and my pals started the local punk/new wave scene in Indianapolis, (at a club called Crazy Al's ) and we had more fun than should ever be allowed. But, this type of thing is rather childish, (not a put down, just a fact from my perspective) and after a decade of hard core hedonism, I had been there, done that, and perfected it to boredom! I got married and my husband and I rather quickly dropped out of the scene. Most all of my contemporaries were rather burnt out too. I was 28 years old, time to grow up! Once MTV came along, everything changed anyway. It wasn't nearly as much fun when you weren't making up the rules! I started loving music with the british invasion. Punk/ new wave/ rockabilly (you could be all those things at once in 1978! ) was my final hurrah. I have paid my dues to the God of Live Music. Those who know me, know that!

Nothing wrong with hedonism. I still have my fun. But yeah Im mellower then I was when i was 21 no doubt. Hedonism comes in different forms nowadays....

This (forum posting), we have a small farm with an old farmhouse that needs love, two children, painting, collecting stuff from the 20's through the early sixties, and of course, my gardens. Sometime after 45, my metabolism slowed down (they said it would! ) , trying to do everything I'm supposed to keeps me way too busy, so taking naps is my secret pleasure! And you?

I dont sleep as much as Id like to. If I didnt have to work Id sleep a lot more. Yeah I still go out and have fun sometimes but its all on my schedule so if you want to party with me then you follow my lead. If you dont want to do what I want to do then Im happy to do it by myself. Thats another thing age gives you. Less desire to seek the herd. More ability to be the lone wolf. But I still love going and seeing live music. Im pretty sure I always will. I do it at least every other week. It helps there are places within walking distance from me I suppose. Gonna see Seven Nations tomorrow bout a mile from my house.

My Entirely Irrelevant List...

the Clash (naturally)
They Might Be Giants (not punk, but I have this obsessive need to recommend them to everyone I come in contact with)
NoFX (they amuse me)
the Butthole Surfers (no comment)
Second Best (haha--my friend George is making me put this on)
Big D and the Kids Table
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Lit (really good)
Bowling For Soup (listen to the bitch song)
Fugazi
New York Dolls (oh, I love them!!!!)
the Distillers
AFI (wow I hope they don't go mainstream...)
Siouxsie and the Banshees
X-Ray Spex (that saxophone...)
the Cramps (their cover of "fever" by peggy lee is good)
DEAD KENNEDIES!!!! (Is it "Kennedies" or "Kennedys"?)

I remember xray specs from the old days, I thought the mm Bosstones were ska? The Cramps were pathetic live! I always thought John Doe of X was very very "hot"!
