Grr... THANK YOU VERY MUCH ENTMOOT!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH ENTMOOT!
I just spent 45 minutes writing a detailed post in the 'Discussion of the Rangers' thread in the Middle Earth Forum, and when I submitted it, it said I wasnt logged in and my post was lost. So I log in, even though I had just logged in before opening the reply box, and it said I was logged in when I submitted my post, it then gave me a BLANK reply box. Screw it, I'm tired and since this is the third time it has done this to me in posts (once I was able to recover the post by using my browser 'back' button, but the other two times I got 'Page Expired'), I guess I know better in trying to write long posts here.
I didn't see any forum to post about problems with the site, so I'm doing it here.

Snowdog, That happens to me soooo many times!! I have to write things quickly and keep them brief. It makes me scream!!! I come off sounding a little less brilliant than I really am I write a bit, submit, hit edit, go back add more, it happens always when I first log on. It ruins all these "thoughts" though. Writing comes in spurts, a creative process that does not hold up to repeating, you just say "screw it" My husband says to type it and cut and paste it or whatever..........anyway, I know beans about computers, but I sure know how you feel!!!I feel like russian roulette, hurry, or you'll lose it.. I'll try refresh next time it happens, which should be soon!

If you are having trouble posting I suggest you do two things. First, simply do a copy/paste before you hit "submit", this will save your work in case of a mix-up. Second, if you have a "cookie" filter, check the setting. If it is set too high, sites like this will not hold your log-in. I myself had terrible trouble posting anywhere until I lowered my cookie setting.

Which is why I try to keep it short, and succinct. And if I have to do a lengthy one, I do it in word, so that I can spell check it before I post it.

I've only had that problem twice before, and it was each time my fault.

That's odd. Never happens to me, yet other people have complained about that. What is your browser and internet provider? (this question is to anyone who experiences these problems).

I would echo Anduril's suggestion of composing long posts in Notepad or some other outside program just in case the board goes funny.

Try Bregalad's cookie tip - that could solve your problem. I really hope so . Bregalad, can you please provide more information about this cookie filter?

LOL, Ben. My problem is that I barely know what I'm talking about. (I'm only sorta computer litterate) But with some searching, I re-found the filter I had to change to post easily on message boards like Entmoot. I'm using Windows 98, I think. And if you go:
C
Control Panel
Internet Properties
Privacy
You will get to the "cookie" filter. I had to set mine on Low "accepts all cookies" before my posting problems ended. Until I did that, when I tried to post things it kept telling me I wasn't logged in, no matter how often I logged in. I lost more posts that way!

My cookies are set at medium, and I have the auto log in setting so it logs me on every time I come to the board. I think VBull has a timeout on it as its happened to me on other VBull sites. Usually, like when I was having trouble over on Tolkienonline, I highlight and ctrl C the post first. Anyway, I did alot of work on that post so I should have known better. I was just pissed whe it happened and I started this thread.

Maybe it depends on your system. My filter used to be set on medium, but I still had trouble until I set it to Low.

Hmmm, sounds very similar to the problems I have when I am on a wireless network. But you Ben said that it was just my "crappy Mac"....which it isn't of course.

I have lots of problems with this v b. Whenever it tries to redirect me, it does not work. I am forced to click on the "click here if it doesn't take you to site" link. As far as I know, this is only a vbulletin problem. It is the same way on MM's vbulletin.

Any suggestions?

anduin, you mean you don't have a crappy mac ?

I haven't watched the version numbers - I was wondering if you recently installed a new version of VBulletin?
