The re-hashing of OLD threads...
Perhaps it is just me, but I am noticing a massive number of old (by old, read before the last few years) threads, some of which have utterly no relevance. A good example of this lack of relevance can be found in the "considering closing the GM forum", thread. This question has been repeatedly denied by the admins, but the thread continues to surface. One even wonders why this thread hasn't been dealt the usual padlock for being useless and alike.
And note all the resurgance of the "remember the ole days (sic)" thread, as well as many others. So why then, children? Why go back to old topics? I do know that some have at least a place in current discussion. But why this influx of ancient threads, threads that in most cases are better left dead? Well, I have an idea. Perhaps the tight restrictions on posts and topics of posts has led mooters to delve back into the friendlier past, and driven them away from rash and bold new threads. But, before we nitpick, this is just an idea. So, what are your ideas??

i've always been one for complete, open discussion... i agree with the pg-13 rules here, as well as the trying to keep threads on topic... but i see no reason to restrict or limit discussion on a particular topic even if certain readers find it uninspiring... or maybe something they'd rather not discuss
everyone here has the choice whether or not to participate in any discussion... or to ignore threads entirely, if they so choose if someone didn't enjoy the discussion, it would not have been bumped in the first place... and if people lose interest... it will fade once again... otherwise, let nature take it's course

On a board a large as this, active moderation is necessary. I don't think it's heavy-handed or unreasonably done at all. I think it's great that flames etc. aren't allowed.
As for bringing up old threads, I agree with Brownie. Where's the harm anyway? No one is going to force people to post in any thread that they don't care about. For some (especially us crotchety old Mooters) it's fun to talk about the past. Maybe I'm a middle-aged Mooter. *runs off and buys an Aston Martin DB9 or a Lotus Exige in a mid-life crisis*

IMO, there are threads that are worth of re-read after some time, as when you retake old conversations with friends...
Others just not are worth of it. let's see what's the destiny of this one

My thoughts are that you're full of it .
Honestly. This isn't a new occurance, and it has happened before in past, when the posts being dragged up new were new, and the ones dragged up then would be REALLY old now. |

It should be "re-hashing."
Sorry, that just really bothered me.

Personally I think the restrictions on many levels have become less tight, that is, compared to what I remember from my early time here. Further, I don't really see how all what we're asking (not to let threads dissolve into flame wars, try to stay on topic of the thread in question and keep the conversations P-13 ect) are such tight restrictions. In the Entmoot forums quite a broad range of things can be discussed. Even bold threads. The digging up older threads is just for remembrance, showing a few newer members what happened in those days and sharing good memories. With a board that is constantly changing with members going and coming, it's nice to pause and look back on what we witnessed here and whom we talked to who today are no longer visiting us.

Perhaps we should "re-hash" a militant CBG thread to show him how the administration have softened up in their old age?

The "Remember the Good Old Days" threads will always be around, because everyone starts to feel reminiscent at some point, once they've been here a while.
Sometimes the bold, new, deep, or heated threads distract attention from other goodies. That's what I see a lot. Then once things come down I'll bump the thread up, because I think people still like it, but were sucked into other things. Of course, sometimes I'm wrong.

nah, CBG and Tater were good guys. You just had to get to know them better and uh.... register before December 2001.
They've both moved on......no word from tater, CBG, in a looong time.
