Not as bad as a FAN OF THE EVIL EMPIRE!!!!!!
(How do you explain that $208 million payroll?!?) You know, a fake SW fan is just as bad as all the Sox fans who popped up after the World Series. (myself not included)

just be happy that the new movie has sparked new fans - even if some have not seen the original trilogy and/or the rest of the prequels.
Liking Star Wars should be mainstream and not considered nerdy :P Soon it will discipate, and you will be sorry Many new fans will remain fans and watch the rest if they have not - but others, maybe like your friend, will lose interest.

Agh, I know what you mean. Whenever someone says they "love Star Wars," they get my hopes up, and then I start talking about it, and I find out they didn't know it was a series even, and by "Star Wars," they really meant "Hayden Christensen." The two should never be confused. That's inexcusible. You disappoint a lot of good people. Funny that this gets so frustrating we actually need a thread to rant about it.

Calling fake fans "fake fans" simply will make them want to stop even being fake fans and just leave both Star Wars and LOTR
Just introduce them to that which they don't know about it and then you'll see if they are true fans or not. The new Star Wars movie did spark many new fans and I know that only because of the LOTR movies did many of my classmates actually read the books. And all because of Orlando Bloom.

guys i know that im new here but to be a fan does not mean that you need to know everything there is to know about something. yes the actors are a big fanbase in the films but without the books/story you've got nothing. if the story aint part of your soul then you aint gonna be a fan just because some piece of top totty is in the films. some people such as myself never read the lotr books till i saw the first film which just blew me away. now i am a avid fan, i dont know everything but it aint no competition to do so. its just there to be enjoyed

Don't worry Sc. Nazgul, you're one of those innocent Star Wars newbies (I think).
We speak of the people who watched Episode I and LOVED Jar Jar. It is extremely painful to hear for us '77 fans ( that doesnt mean we were all born in '77 though). That's it, we HAVE to start a thread where we can discuss the new films' problems. I dont have time, but any of you guys can do it, and I'll put a nice big preachy post to illustrate my real knowledge

I hear ya on the fake fans!
Hubby and I wouldn't let that happen to our kids. We made them watch all the first 3 movies before seeing the new ones. The cool thing is that they like the old ones as much as the new ones.

Good girl! When the time comes, I will do the same. My 2 1/2 year old nephew already loves Darth Vader. Gets excited and jumps up--"Wook, wook!" when he sees that figure move across the screen. He's gonna be a big SW fan. As Leia says, "I can feel it."
