Leap Day 2012
Coming tomorrow - February 29, 2012. Once every four years (or so) we add an extra day to the year. Has me thinking of several different things:
* The custom that it's "alright" (socially acceptable) for a woman to ask a man to marry her on Leap Day. * In a similar vein - "Saddie Hawkin's Day" from the Lil' Abner Musical. * Tolkien - and all the marvelous calendars he made, with the provision for an extra day at about the summer solstice - the Overlithe! So... anyone have any special plans for The Overlithe? Anyway - if anyone asks, or gets asks - be sure to share. (meanwhile - the next day, March 1 - is Aragorn's birthday!)

I've got big stuff coming up. Going to spend Friday and Saturday with friend A in Pittsburgh, then take a bus to St. Louis, where I'll be guest lecturing on Tuesday in a class taught by friend B, then friend B and I will be road-tripping back, and picking up friend A on our way back to DC, at which point I will be hosting both of them for a couple of days, before friend A goes to stay at his girlfriend's (cause my flatmate will also be having his girlfriend staying, it being spring break and all, and 5 people+1 bathroom= ). So, I was going to go do some last minute pantry stocking, and cut my shaggy hair and replace my ratty, worn-out belt. But, apparently, it's raining tomorrow. So, instead, I'll be staying in and working on term paper proposals, and I'll do my last minute stuff on Aragorn's birthday (before my afternoon class).

March is quite a remarkable month, isn't it? Recall on March 25th, that was the overthrow of Sauron... So... how funny would a Tolkien History Class thread be?
I actually have a cousin who is a leapyear baby. Tomorrow will be her second actual birthday, although she'll be 8 years old. My day itself will consist of cleaning, probably. But I HAVE been considering trying to write a bluegrass song for my husband (will be VERY bad and rather a capella since I do not excel at the violin). However, I do have a few months before his birthday... Hmm...

I'm sending off an extra donation to the Amphibian Ark project. They launched four years ago on Leap Day, if I recall correctly.
I make yearly donations, but today seems like the perfect day for a little extra. Ribbit!
