costumes.
is there an official costume thread already?
sorry if there is, but i just wanted to know what people thought about the costumes in the movie? what would you have changed? what did you love? eh? eh? i would have done galadriel's dresses a bit different, they looked a bit stereotypical of the "good side" i know she was suposed to be in all white, but it just looked so.. plain. white lace? ya it was pretty, but.. something was missing that i can't put my finger on. and arwens dresses too. they were cool, but still all of the elven stuff (except for legolas' traveling clothes) there was something missing.. i liked all the rest. oh, one more point. i wish they had put in the saruman of many colours. ok, im done, have fun.

i think (correct me if i'm wrong) that he was still Saruman the White at that point (?) and later he became Saruman of Many Colors

gandalf tells about his meeting with saruman at the council of elrond, in the movie they showed a bit of real time seqencing, like showing events in order, instead of having the characters tell one another in the books, the camera can just go to the scene between them etc.
they should have put it in. it would have been a hard costume to make without looking cheesy though.

If you really liked the dresses there is a website that makes reproductions of Galadriel's dress and Arwen's lilac one...there are a lot of movie repros on it.
I actually thought the costuming was great. That's one of my favorite things to look at, is the costuming in movies. That'd be a fun thing to do for a living (never mind that I can't sew). I would like Galadriel's dress for a wedding dress.

i LIKME ALL THE ELVISH STUFF. i KNOW THAT gALADRIEL WAS A LITTLE STERIOTYPED BUT SHE STILL LOOKED VERY "PURE" AND SORT OF FITTED THE PART. Oops i just realised that i felt the caps locks on and i can't be bothered to type it all out again.

The elvish costumes were OK.
The hobbits were perfect. I didn't like Gandalf's hat. Ditto LuthienTinuviel and Starr Polish on Saruman of many colors. I thought that would have been interesting, and it showed that Saruman had changed, given into temptation (there's another Biblical theme) I thought Boromir's costume was super. Very Roman-esque, (not Viking) because Gondor was allegorical to Rome *JRRT rolls over in grave at yet again another reference to allegory* My favorite: The Ringwraiths were totally awesome. Not just hooded figures. They actually looked like phantoms with all that tattered dark fabric, and those menacing gloves. They are the stuff nightmares are made of.

Starr Polish, would you post a link to the site you mentioned? (the on that makes costumes)
I liked the elven-stuff (except Galadriel). I agree about Saruman of many colors. Hobbits: Great Gimli: Great Gloin: Ugh Aragorn: could've been better Borimir: good

The costumes were great, IMHHO. I really liked the jewelry mainly, but the costumes were good too.

The Hobbits costumes were really countrified. Comfortable looking and homemade like. Very well done and convincing.
I thought Arwen lavender dress was pretty...with the covering over it. A nice summer evening dress. I didn't like her riding dress though. Gimlis helmet get's on my nerves the way it seems to dig into his head and it looks so CLUNKY. Yech. But I liked him all in all. Boromirs costume was good. I liked the way they had the princly elegance(like the bracelets and the crimson sleaves with the gold trim)and the traveler look mixed together. Legolas's "council of elrond costume" was COOL with that grey shiny stuff. But I liked his travelling cotume too. Those boots were too cool. I liked Gandalfs costuem all the way. His staff is TOO neat. Saruman. One word for him. EVIL ALL the way. But I liked the hobbits party stuff and normal costumes. Merry had this ADORABLE plaid on at the party that he spoiled the dunce. Sam

i dunno, i was thinking about this today, and maybe saruman's robes bug me so much because of the color similarity between gladreils and his robes.
both white bothe resemble purity and the sort. galadreil i would believe to be in white, in fact the book, says she is, but the design could have been better i think. they should have put saruman of many colours in because now i feel like he is pure too, which in turn makes me confused about "is he really bad" if you can understand that, yer a true genius. sorry it's so mottled, but i had to get it out, it was driving me nuts.

Also, at the point where Frodo is getting all ready to leave after Gandalf tells him that the Ring cannot stay in the Shire, I love his costume and props when he's all ready to leave . . . it makes him look really cute and hobbit-ish.

It has Galadriel's dress and Arwen's lilac dress, but she isn't currently taking orders, and the price for Galadriel's dress is very high (Arwen's isn't up for order yet). All of the stuff she makes herself, I think, and I hear is really great quality. I am obsessed with medievel/renassaince costuming, so of course I love these sites. I am even planning on getting a historically accurate medieval dress for one of my proms.

Was that particular dress of Arwen's in the movie? I don't recognize it.
