Happy Passover!

Yes, it's Passover today. Hmmm... actually Passover evening... but today we celebrate Passover. (something with the moon calendar, unlike the christian clanedar which is by the sun)

Happy Passover then!

Happy Passover Radagast the Brown!

Is it proper at this time also to say: 'Shabbat Shalom!' ?

OK - I wasn't sure if that extended to holy holidays - as well as being a Sabbath greeting.

Happy Holiday then!

OH, no! I forgot to get and send out passover cards. Dammit, I'm so forgetful.

Ah... well Happy Holidays, RtB. I just watched the 10 Commandments on ABC Sunday night... though I was only watching somewhat and didn't finish the whole thing in it's entirety. It's not like I don't know every line, I watched it every year growing up.

Cecil B. DeMille did a fabulous job on that movie. The number of extras in the scene where the Jews leave Egypt is astounding!

The all-star cast did a great job. I always thought Yul Brynner did the best job as Pharoah Rameses. And Anne Baxter was great at turning her love to revenge as Nefriteri. Though, I can't seem to think of Edward G. Robinson as anything other than a gangster... he also did a great job as Dathan. And of course, Charlton Heston as Moses, also a wonderful job.

I'm always amazed at how big that production was for the time, since when we think of big budget films, we think of those made in the last 20 or so odd years.

one interesting bit about the ten commandments is that demille had the set buried in the sands under some secrecy after the film was shot... it was said that in part, he did not want other directors to use it... he also thought it would be amusing to think of archaeologists uncovering it some time in the distant future... leaving his own mark on history

it was uncovered around 10-15 years ago in the california dunes, and a preservation project was set up around it... i remember hearing about a documentary on the subject on NPR a few years back, though i never saw it

Um... as a purist, I'd like to point out that they deviated somewhat from the Book... maybe more so than Peter Jackson did with "Lord of the Rings"!

Yep! I've never been able to watch it all in one sitting. But it was pretty spectacular for its day. The parting of the Red Sea is still pretty neat to see!

But to say it's an "adaptation" is putting it mildly.

And imagine some movie geek in 40 years saying about "Lord of the Rings": "It was pretty spectacular for its day. The Battle of Pelennor Fields is still pretty neat to see..."

And a very happy Passover to all!
