Pytt was correct, he was singing. Merry and Pippin were stuck inside Old Man Willow and Frodo didn't know what to do so he ran down the path screaming for help- I can just picture Elijah doing that, hehehe - and he heard Tom singing his nonesense.
Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo! Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow! Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!

Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling, The voices of my people that have gone before me? I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me; For our days are ending and our years failing. I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing. Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling, Sweet are the voices in the lost Isle calling, In Eresëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover, Where the leaves fall not: land of my people forever!” |

Yes, I guess I have to accept that. They wanted food, a door between them and the night, and a nice fire.

OK, so I'm number 58, slapped with a fish. However, I'm already a member of the "fish slapping dance" courtesy of Monty Python, so it may not count.
