Who Am I?

I was considered one of the Great in Middle Earth.
I have suffered many defeats,
and I have won many victories.
I was a counselor to Kings,
and I have ruled over vast territories.
I was a prisoner,
bereft of my freedom.
I was a giver of gifts,
and a skilled craftsman.
Yet all that once was is gone,
and I who once was great, have now come to nothing.

Who am I?

Except that Sauron didn't actually make the Rings; that was Celebrimbor.

Oh, and on the Riddles thread, it's not by turns, not by whomever gets the correct answer to the last riddle. People just post whenever they come up with another good riddle.

You have good guesses Radagast The Brown, however both of them are incorrect. Also, in riddle #2, you must know the word to complete the rhyme.
