..Well, I'm passing on this. Just got my ROTK EV today and the third disc won't play. #$!#$#!@ I'll get a new edition and free shipping back of this one but it just makes me mad. Not to mention all the changes (major) from the book. I still think FOTR was the best of the films. ok, I'm finished ranting...for now.

At Ocean's silent brim;

Where the shores are sheer and dim
He launched his bark like a silver spark
From the last and lonely sand;
Then on sunlit breath of day's fiery death
He sailed from Westerland

What did Sam think was the best way of saying "Here I am" in the forest?
They were in the dell below Weathertop directly after spotting the Black Riders on the road from the top of Weathertop, and Aragorn said:

Quote:
'There is still hope,' he [strider] said. 'You are not alone. Let us take this wood that is set ready for the fire as a sign. There is little shelter or defence here, but fire shall serve for both. Sauron can put fire to his evil uses, as he can all things, but these riders do not love it, and fear those who wield it. Fire is our friend in the wilderness.'

'Maybe,' muttered Sam. 'It is also a good way of saying "here we are" as I can think of, bar shouting.'

West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling,
Sweet are the voices in the lost Isle calling,
In Eresëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people forever!”

That quote gives you the answer. Spock you said that a fire was then shouting. Look at the quote closeley, but you were very close.

OK, re-stating the answer.

the quote is "maybe, muttered Sam, It is also as good a way of saying her we are as I can think of, bar shouting."

so, shouting is the best way to say "here I am" and fire is second best. is that it?

Yay.

How many days did it take to Gandalf to get from Weathertop to Rivendell?

(in the month of October year 3018, after he was attacked by the Nazgul.)

Tsk, tsk, I see somebody checked the appendices. It's wrong, Gandalf says something different in FotR.
