I saw the same footage at the music awards, they were just trying to be funny by doing a quiet bit/ loud bit sort of thing. It was the bassist Flea who was playing the drums by the way, he's very impressive.

Previously you said the Chili's music is weak because they didn't incoporate instruments into their music. You gave that as a reason as to why you thought they sucked.

I get that impression after watching that aformentioned chat show. He was witless and the presenter struggled to get him to talk. He only time he really spoke was some phooey about artisic expression.
