You are such a strong person, Rian . I'm not sure I could be as optimistic as you are if I were faced with something this drawn out.

Lemme just chime in with the others though, and suggest that you not push yourself -AT ALL-. Better to spend a year limping than two years limping just because you pushed yourself too hard and tore something all over again.

But I want to walk NOW!!! *pout*

Oh, ok ... you guys are right - thanks I'll be careful.

(but I limped for a year even BEFORE the surgery because it took them that long to find it ( - but anyway, we're on the right path now )

Stopping by again after yet another two very interesting weeks. Everyone in the house has been through some sort of illness since the beginning of the month - that's a 10 day span thus far. The kids were sick, the girl had a fever, the boy had a cough. My wife has shown signs of having the flu, her sister's already had that, and I've been getting a cold very slowly, but it hasn't gotten that bad around this area yet. So things will be alright. There's always hope. It's just that...sometimes some of us realize it a little later on.

I finally had a voice lesson today, and we made a LOT of progress... at least I hope we did.

I finally got my jaw to really drop all of the way when I sing my head voice, and the difference was incredible. It went from feeling like the sound 'flips over' into my head, to suddenly feeling like there was this tiny, incredibly focused ball of sound in my head. It's weird because I couldn't hear it very well... it seemed quieter than the way I usually do it, but it was like the 'vibrations' I felt were much more distinct than they usually are.

He told me that it sometimes takes him two years to get a guy my age to make the 'sounds' that I'm making now, which was nice to hear... Lately I've been feeling like it'd hit a plateau and I couldn't figure out how to make the next 'step'. It's just so difficult... I was starting to wonder if I'd be able to get my voice headed back in the right direction.

Still so much to do, though. It's just kind of staggering :-/. The head voice sound is still too 'dark' in color, and it's far from being even remotely consistent the way it should be. I have so far to go and all I can do is pray that I can make it there... it will take a lot of prayer .

Particularly if I want to have even the slightest chance of making it into Madrigal choir for next semester... which if I actually manage that... I can promise you'll hear my screams of joy all the way in Alaska .

Darwin day!

(And I'm writing an article on the Darwin's frog instead of cleaning, just because.)

Yes, happy Darwin day! I wrote a correctional letter to the newspaper on something they wrote about Darwin and religion. Not sure if I'm going to send it in because it is the most worthless paper here anyway, but still.

lots of reasons to celebrate this week! darwin day yesterday, unix time alignment tonight (here in Finland it's tomorrow at 1.31.30 am, actually) and today a good friend of mine got it confirmed that he'll be hired for a PhD for four years (which means he can stay in the country!).

yay-ness!

I told my parents that it looks like it's going to be about $1,000 for me to go to Italy in 2010 with the college choir, and they basically said that even if I can't save up the money I'll need, they'll find a way to get me there .

I'm pretty confident I can save up at least 90% of the money I'll need, but I may need some help with paying for the extra stuff like food.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! We'll be performing in cathedrals and stuff for 10 days!! IN ITALY!!!!!

The summer of 2010 cannot get here soon enough!!

Alright Italy is such a lovely country!
Do you know which cathedrals you'll visit? Any of the big, famous ones?

Our choir director said that one of his conditions with the tour company he's currently looking into (he has three potential companies) is that we have to be able to sing at St. Peter's Basilica.

!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!

So ANYWAYS... I'm starting to try to learn some Italian. Hopefully I'll get more out of the trip if I can learn some of the language.
